Midway Hcp
1. The biggest firmer overnight from a pro-rata perspective is ALL TOO LUCKY the Kembla-trained mare. She hasn’t drawn well but did win here 2 starts back in BM 64 grade coming with a long sustained run from the tail of the field, then last start tried to the same this track when 2nd. Up in class here but down in weight.
2. Similarly CATCH THE GLORY was a last start city winner after being near last on the bend. That was when resuming and was placed 2nd up last prep. Well tried overnight.
3. It’s a big rise in grade from Super Mdn win last start but he is the topical tip. MAILATA, whose namesake won a Superbowl ring on Monday with the Eagles, is on the improve each start and should be competitive.
Tips: 12 – 11 – 7
Highway Hcp
1. Can’t get much more consistent thn TAPA KICK who has 12 times and won two of them, placing 10 out of 10 the remainder. Finished 3rd this grade last start after not getting a clear run. He also has been the only firmer overnight with some good confidence shown in him by pro punters. Has drawn perfectly.
2. ADOLPHUS hasn’t drawn as well but he is in career-best form and is 4th up here with Tim Clark on top. Did finish 2nd this grade in town last start and beat Tapa Kick home that day. Must be considered.
3. NIGHT PATRA doesn’t boast any city form but did win a weaker race at Scone last start in good style over a mile finishing hard.
Tips: 3 – 2 – 7
Coolmore Pierro Plate 2YO
1. Not many, if any, well maybe Wodeton, have been as impressive as PALLATON and with the box seat draw of gate 2 here he does look likely to continue his unbeaten run. Looms as a big Golden Slipper hope too if he wins this.
2. This strangely named unbeaten bush horse SHAGGY has caught the attention of Friday punters and he has firmed here in the market. Has led all the way to win his 2 starts by big margins but this is a huge rise in grade.
3. Unraced galloper SKYHOOK who cost $575k as a yearling has trialled like a city horse and may well run a very big race here on debut.
Tips: 2 – 3 – 10
Wellington Trophy
1. There’s just no way, providing he gets a decent run, that YORKSHIRE will get beaten by those he beat last start in this very grade. With the 3kg claim he is weighted to win this and should appreciate the trip too. Is trained here.
2. He ran down SANDPAPER last start who was game hanging on for 2nd. Strangely, he has been well-backed to turn the tables this time so must be fancied here.
3. Third home last time they all raced was CINQUE TORRI was was up just behind the pace all the way. I say they all trifecta this in the same order again here.
Tips: 1 – 7 – 12
Gr 2 Asahi Expressway Stakes
1. It’s really hard to go past JOLIESTAR who is one of the very best sprinters in the land on her day. Resumes here, should sit back about 5th to the bend and simply out-sprint these late.
2. MAGIC TIME hasn’t won for a while but she’s a legit Gr 1 galloper and Jordy Childs is up here from Melbourne to partner her which suggests she is ready to go. Will make it interesting if at her best.
3. The topweight AIRMAN is enigmatic but when he puts his mind to it he is very hard to run past and off this draw he should be right on the speed. Good race.
Tips: 5 – 2 – 1
Gr 3 Triscay Stakes
1. This is an interesting race in-so-much as NOTHING has firmed on Friday. So it’s a lottery for the pro punters too. This is because no-one really knows how good this unbeaten bush mare CLEAR THINKING is. Four starts, for four wins all in vastly easier grade, BUT, her last start win, here at this track under 60kg over 1200m was done in 1:08.92. That time would comfortably win this and she has just 53kg today.
2. COMMEMORATIVE for Godolphin resumes and she has always shown stakes grade talent. Will get back but her first-up form is pretty tidy so expect a big run.
3. Graeme Begg has brought his top mare Magic Time up and with her came a travelling companion in the smart and consistent KUNDALINI. She must be considered.
Tips: 10 – 2 – 4
Gr 2 Light Fingers Stakes
1. All things being equal, LADY OF CAMELOT, should win this. She is 2nd up here after a most unlucky 2nd in a similar race, is trained here, is a Gr 1 winner and has drawn perfectly. Just looks a good thing to me.
2. MANAAL has been a leader in her cohort since her juvenile days and is a Gr 1 winner. Last prep won over 1200m in a time that can win this. Resumes here and must be considered.
3. LADY SHENANDOAH hasn’t raced against the likes of these but her two from two wins last prep said she is ready to make her presence felt. Watch market.
Tips: 1 – 2 – 3
Gr 2 Apollo Stakes
1. Because there is little pace on in this race it is very interesting. CEOLWULF did lead in a barrier trial recently beating Vis Sistina and Fangirl so on the strength of that trial and the way the race will be run, he probably gets the nod. He is resuming here, is a 2 x Gr 1 winner and if he has improved from last campaign he rates the highest.
2. No knock on the champ VIA SISTINA at all. She won first up last prep then went on to dominate the big Gr 1 races. She is a superstar and has a will to win better than anyone. Just may get caught flat-footed when they sprint here after a slowish early tempo.
3. FANGIRL looked super good in that trial behind Ceolwulf. Again, she needs pace early and there will not be much of that in this so should run home gamely late into 3rd.
Tips: 1 – 5 – 6
Macquariw St BM 88
1. Even though the win streak of DISNECK came to an end last start, punters still want some of the action here and he has met with very solid Friday support which is always very encouraging. The 3kg claim is a big help.
2. Also well supported on Friday is FRENCH ENDEAVOUR who resumes here. Bad draw hasn’t stopped them getting on this mare who was consistent last prep.
3. Speaking of consistency, BUNKER HUT scored handsomely in a BM 78 last start under a big weight and drops 3kg here. He’s in form, very fit, and punters like him too.
Tips: 1 – 12 – 7
Captivant BM 78
1. Everyone else’s price is bigger because the money is streaming in for the picket-fence filly PERFUMIST. She’s won four from past four starts including this grade easily last start when leading all the way. Rises only 2kg and the pro punters think she repeats the dose.
2. Interestingly there has been solid each-way money for the Melbourne visitor EL ROCKO who is down in grade here and is 2nd up. From this gate he sits about 4th with a great run and watches the filly the whole way. Quinella them.
3. MORE TERRITORIES was scratched from another race preferring this. Resumes here and some neat wages have been recorded against her name.
Tips: 7 – 4 – 14
