Day At The track – Eagle Farm May 3

1. As soon as markets went up on Thursday the money started coming in for Sydneysider PIRAEUS. He finished hard from a long way back in a BM 72 last start at Randwick when 5th and looks primed for this.

2. Horrible draw for VORACIOUS although given his pattern of racing where he jumps and leads, that may not be a bad thing. Is in form winning his last 2 starts here. Extra 200m on last start win but he’s pretty tough.

3. Chris Waller’s LIBERTY PARK comes into this off a Doomben 2000m win in similar grade on a soft track. Is 3rd up now so is super fit and will be running on.

Tips: 5 – 6 – 13

1. This mare FLOOZY, who is from the former brilliant racehorse Catchy, resumed from a spell looking like her mum last start here in a BM 70. Has been well backed to repeat the dose and drawn to suit.

2. FEARLESS THINKING may go back from this awkward draw but she can rally late. Last start in a BM 70 at Doomben she did closing hard into 2nd spot and is fitter now.

3. This bush mare DREAM LANTERN has won 3 from 8 and did so at Dalby by a big space last start. Place show.

Tips: 4 – 12 – 9

1. SER JOH resumed from a spell last start and got back in the ruck before plodding home when clear and finishing 5 lengths behind Floozy. Is better than that and drops 4kg here. Is also fitter now.

2. First up ability is important when resuming and DEEP RESPECT who comes back to racing after 4 months break has won in the past fresh. Recent trial was good and can run time.

3. STARRY EYES has experience at this level and resumes here. Can muster late.

Tips: 9 – 5 – 12

1. Being a track specialist is a big help and despite copping a weight that may stop him, RISING PACIFIC is in such great form he must be considered again. Has won 3 of his past 4 including beating the smart Devastate last start over a mile.

2. The fav, VICTORY WIN, who got up on pace last start this grade and narrowly won over a mile at Doomben, is going to be hard to catch. He’s 3rd up and very consistent.

3. WARP SPEED has been just behind the placegetters of late. He is fit and can bob for 3rd at juicy odds.

Tips: 1 – 5 – 2

1. The way TAVS attacked the line late to score easily in a BM 78 here last start when 2nd up suggests he will go on with the job. Drops a kilo too. Big hope.

2. It may be time for SECRET PLAN to return to the placegetters. He is 3rd up and in previous preps was better than most of these. Prefers this trip over the 1200m this grade when a good 5th last start.

3. Robbie Dolan gets a chance for a winner here as he pilots ANEMACORE who was game on the limit last start over 1805m here. Very fit.

Tips: 10 – 4 – 11

1. At only start AMOSU finished hard to win a tough race on a heavy at the Goldie. Now, field was good but is she just a mudder? Who knows but the money around her says she can run so she’s the top pick in a very open juvenile.

2. TORQUE TO BE SURE is a maiden but has been heavily backed here first up. Runner up last prep in a better race than this.

3. THE BEAR will be huge odds but he has talent and from this gate should secure the run of the race and be in the fray late.

Tips: 6 – 2 – 3

1. Bone and muscle here as the leader SHANGRI LA SPRING should jump straight to the front. Did that at Randwick last start in 3YO race and led all the way over 2000m beating a subsequent Gr 1 placegetter home. Super fit and style of racing suits this.

2. WONDER BOY from Victoria is very honest and did win last start in strong 3YO grade down there. Has claims.

3. The filly CHURCHILL’S CHOICE may be very talented. Ran 4th in unsuitable event when resuming in Sydney and will find this easier. Big watch on her.

Tips: 1 – 2 – 16

1. I think given there will be about 4 vying for early supremacy, so the pace will be on hard from the get-go. ROTHFIRE has the talent and draw to sit just off them smoking his pipe. He loves this track too.

2. COAL CRUSHER from Sydney was 2nd in a similar race last start indicating he is back in shape. He’s one of the ones who will fire out of the gates and be on pace all the way.

3. Can a 3YO filly who gets right back to last early and charges late be good enough for this? Hmmm, maybe EL MORZILLO can. She won at Flemington in March racing that way.

Tips: 1 – 3 – 17

1. EMIRATE is a Gr 1 horse and as such if you can land odds against, which you should if you are prudent, then get on.

2. Godolphin’s SNACK BAR is talented and consistent, two vital factors for a race like this. Was 3rd when resuming last start and there is money around for him here.

3. Lightly raced MOSCOW CIRCUS led and won maiden here 2 starts back then led and run down on the line on a heavy track at Doomben over 1350m. This is 50m shorter.
