Best Bets – Wednesday 5th August

Hmmm, we see this in greyhound racing a fair bit where one trainer has pretty much the whole field, but not so much in racing. We do today. Chris Waller holds all the cards with 6 of the 8 acceptors trained by him. And all can run at this level. So, who wins? Well GLISSANDO led all the way on a firm surface at Kembla last start in a maiden, and won as she liked. It was the way she ran her last 600m in 33 and change that caught my eye. Led and kicked. That will do me for this as she would have improved a length or so  from that race.

An early Jay Mac double coming up here as he steers ROYAL AIR FORCE home. The horse has been crying out for a firm track with pace on and gets that here. Will settle off speed, then charge late. Is 5th up and super ready to win.

This may be a tad short for FOXENBERG, but it isn’t a strong race. And, while he is resuming, that to me is his strength. He is unbeaten in 2 starts while resuming and is unbeaten at this track. Gets a claim, and should be rattling home from Nordic Strike. That’s my quinella.

The way ALIEN ANGEL ploughed through wet ground, coming from a mile back to win her maiden last start over 1300m when resuming, suggests to me she might be pretty handy. Trained by Team Hayes, they tend to keep their charges going, so I suspect she again rattles home despite the rise in class. She should also be a fair bit fitter in this.

Surely SNACK BAR is the best bet of the day. He ran 2nd last start in a race that is 6 lengths stronger than this. Today, he has the fence draw, so sits smoking his pipe in 4th on the rails. A fired up Jay Mac who by this stage of the day will be looking for a treble, has the mount and if they bet $2.10 or better, I’m having a lash.
