Best Bets – Saturday 3rd January

BM84 Handicap

GEELONG Race 7 (1100m) 3:45 pm

BIG SWINGER should be ready to peak and show the potential that he has promised for a long time. He loomed to win last time at Pakenham but the 62.5kgs took its toll over the concluding stages. He gets 2kg off for apprentice Logan Bates this time around and that will help enormously, he should be extremely hard to hold off late.

Coastal Classic

GEELONG Race 9 (1700m) 4:25 pm

HOLYMANZ got the monkey off his back and broke through to dead heat in the Werribee Cup last time out and has had a slight freshen up for this contest. He has been racing against the likes of Warnie, Sabaj and then when dropped back in class he got that elusive win (dead-heat). Although he is up in weight, Michael Dee will give him every chance to bring up two in a row.

Vo Rogue Plate

EAGLE FARM Race 7 (1300m) 3:57 pm

Although NINJA has drawn wide on the track, he looks the one that is best suited here and is on the up and up. First-up he got caught up in traffic turning for home and worked home well along the rail to go down narrowly to Grafterburners and Damien. Tommy Berry takes over the reins and look for him to be the one storming over them at the business end.

Buffering

EAGLE FARM Race 8 (1400m) 4:32 pm

TAVS had no luck last time out when caught wide throughout and couldn’t finish off behind Caballus who dictated terms out in front. Angela Jones takes over today and she had ridden this boy patiently previously when he won the Weetwood. He gets the low draw and can see him sitting back on the fence and weaving a passage in the run to the line. Looks like a nice bet at an each-way quote.

Foundation Handicap

GAWLER Race 5 (1207m) 2:54 pm

AUTUMN FROST sat up on speed last time and only went down by just over a length at the finish to World’s My Oyster. Again, not favorably drawn although he usually goes forward anyhow and hopefully can land in the top spot early. If he can dictate from the front, he will prove very hard to run down.
