Best Bets – Saturday 20th September

SIR DELIUS created a big impression when he won the Chairman’s Handicap at Doomben back in May and then came back with a nice closing finish first-up behind Lindermann in the Chelmsford at Randwick first-up. Only a very lightly raced five-year-old from the Waterhouse/Bolt camp, who will be all the fitter for that effort and he should take a power of stopping in the Group 1 Underwood. 

Going to have something each-way on DAMASK ROSE in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over the 1400m at Caulfield. She got well back first-up from the low draw and when saw daylight, finished the race off nicely behind Magic Time. She will relish the step up in trip and gets in very light with Michael Dee on board. At the juicy double figure odds, she is worth an each-way play.

Looks like a nice race for SHMOOV MOOVA to bounce back into the winners stall for Simon Miller & William Pike. Only a lightly raced gelding, he has put the writing on the wall finishing second at his past two starts, closing nicely at the line. Should get the gun run in behind the speed and hopefully will be putting in the big ones late to get the victory.

WARBY is a very consistent gelding who has a 50% second-up strike rate winning three times and even though he has drawn out wide, he can find the line late as has been shown on many occasions. Ryan Maloney knows this boy well, expect him to go back and get a cart into the race. At a nice quote he should take plenty of holding out at the business end of the race.

BUNKER HUT proved far too superior for his opposition at Doomben last time and although he goes up in weight for this race, he gets Rory Hutchings on board who has ridden him in the past in Sydney. From the soft draw, he should be able to drop in behind the speed, conserve his energy and come with one run over them at the finish. Looks one of the best bets on the day.
