Best Bets – Saturday 20th December

BM78 Handicap

CAULFIELD HEATH Race 4 (1500m) 2:00 pm

The lightly raced four-year-old mare in KNOBELAS appears to be one of the better bets on the card. She won impressively first-up at Pakenham and she looks to have been well placed to add to that win tally. From the low barrier draw, she should get the sit on her rivals and if she gets clear room on straightening for home, she should prove too strong for them.

EPONA CLASSIC

Ascot Race 5 (1200m) 2:28 pm

JAZ SESSION had no luck last time out when held up from the home turn and Black Ora who won that race. got all the favours to get the victory. From the low draw, I think she can hold a position in behind the speed and they usually fan on the corner, so she should be able to take advantage of that and run over them late.

BM90 Handicap

CAULFIELD HEATH Race 9 (1000m) 5:05 pm

BEAST MODE gets back to the 1000m here where he has won at on seven occasions in the past. He is a speed machine who should find the lead here and will give them something to catch. The Heath track should suit him perfectly and hopefully he can give a good kick turning for home and hold off the challengers to the line.

Lough Neagh Stakes

EAGLE FARM Race 8 (1300m) 4:32 pm

TAVS had no luck last time out when was caught wide throughout and couldn’t finish off behind Caballus who dictated terms out in front. Angela Jones takes over today and she had ridden this boy patiently previously. Ridden quietly, he has shown a nice turn of hoof when let down to make his run. Looks like a nice bet at an each-way quote.

Open Handicap

EAGLE FARM Race 9 (1800m) 5:10 pm

WALSH BAY has put together a picket fence of wins and can see no reason why that run cannot continue. She fought off all the challengers last time to win over the mile at Sunshine Coast and looks even better suited going up to the 1800m today. Damien Thornton has been on board at all of those wins and he knows her well. Does appear to be the one to beat again.
