Listed Show A Heart 2yo
1. This filly SUNRAYS looks like a juvenile fun-machine. Just keeps putting in every start. Has raced 5 times, and only time she was beaten was by the boom 2YO Beadman. Finished like a train to win a similar race last start over 1350m and big track suits here.
2. Chris Waller does this every year – brings a potentially very smart colt up to campaign in Qld during winter and I suspect PROVIDENCE is that colt this year. He was an impressive 3rd on debut behind the very smart Agarwood at only start. Jay Mac rides so must be considered.
3. THE BEAR is a local horse who is 3rd up. Seems to have talent and at massive odds I expect him to be in this finish.
Tips: 13 – 8 – 5
Listed Lightning
1. STEADY READY ran in this race last year with 53kg and brained them by 2 lengths and has since just kept winning. Big ask with this weight of 60kg this time, but he is a winner. Won 2 recent trials leading into this.
2. I suspect OUR KOBISON must be flying at home for him to come all the way here first up. Bad draw but he is smart on his day and goes very well fresh.
3. METALART is rising in grade here but did win impressively last start and is 3rd up here. Beautifully drawn.
Tips: 1 – 3 – 13
WFA MM National Classic F&M
1. She may be inconsistent but when LEKVARTE gets onto a big track over this trip she tends to spring to life. Will get back but has a powerful burst when she wants to produce it. Big show.
2. Gai and Adrian’s import PULCHRITUDINOUS is very smart and resumed from a spell a fortnight back with a big win in this grade. Sure to be even fitter now. Big danger.
3. MARE OF MT BULLER is very honest and is up to this level too. This is her 5th start this prep and she just keeps running into the money. I suspect she will again here.
Tips: 1 – 2 – 8
Gr 2 Moreton Cup
1. This just looks a perfect race for FRONT PAGE. Should cruise to the lead from the start and with this light weight should keep going. Hard to catch.
2. BARBER hasn’t lost any gloss since leaving Godolphin. In fact is racing with gusto and is up to this level. Should make his presence felt late.
3. PUNCH LANE is very smart and racing well but is coming back in trip against a speedy bunch. Should run on into 3rd.
Tips: 8 – 5 – 1
Listed Qld day Stakes
1. This is probably a drop in grade for COLEMAN and if so it should get him fired up. He needs too. Has failed to show up at all since switching camps to Chris Waller. Is Gr 1 placed and if he finds that form he wins this.
2. Good, consistent Victorian WINNASEDGE just keeps bobbing up in the placings. Won a recent trial against some smart ones and looks nicely placed.
3. Money coming in for this visiting Kiwi VELOCIOUS. She’s won 6 races and won on soft ground at Te Rapa 2 weeks back. Respect.
Tips: 1 – 2 – 7
Listed Spear Chief
1. Despite it being a slow track and DESERT LIGHTNING having to carry 61kg, I like him. He is the class and he is 3rd up. Likes it damp and at his best he wins this comfortably. Recent starts have been poor but have been in Gr 1 races.
2. He comes back a bit in trip but RISING PACIFIC is racing in such great form he must be considered. Carried 60kg in a BM 90 last start and stormed home from well back. Winning form is contagious.
3. This imported mare KITTY ROSE may surprise. She has form in the wet at stakes level abroad and her first Aussie start over 1400m at Scone was handy, finishing off from 16th on bend in a fast run 1400m to run 8th. Will be running on.
Tips 1 – 12 -15
Gr 1 Kingsford Smith Cup
1. Best horse is GIGA KICK. Best run last start – probably Giga Kick. Suited by this trip and track, yep Giga Kick. I’m sure you get the picture.
2. JOLIESTAR is in and out at this level but when she’s in, like she was in the Gr 1 Newmarket, then she goes very close. Great effort last start when 2nd in a similar race.
3. This mare BENEDETTA is a genuine Gr 1 galloper. And she is honest so expect her to run very boldly. Loves this trip.
4. GOLDEN MILE rattled home from the back last start when 3rd indicating he’s back to his best. Has claims at good odds.
Tips: 1 – 10 -12 -4
Gr v1 - Qld Oaks 3YO fillies
1. I just have such a good feeling about PINITO. She is honest to a fault, in superb form and races like this track and trip will suit. Big winner last start in lead up race too.
2. BENAGIL is very smart. No-one can explain the aberration last start. At her best she nearly wins this so must be in your numbers.
3. PHILIA probably leads again as she has become accustomed to of late with all her wins but she will have a pest at her the whole way in Shangrila Impact and that may worry her out of winning. But, is very smart.
4. CHURCHILL’S CHOICE is bred to appreciate this trip and is racing like she will be a major force late. Can finish.
Tips: 8 – 1 – 2 – 4
Gr 1 - Qld Derby
1. Consistency and the ability to stay, these are the hallmarks for Gr 1 wins at this level. And STATUARIO has all that. Just looks from this gate to get the perfect run. I like him a lot.
2. POLITELY DUN is an emerging talent from Victoria. He looked classy with a 3YO hcp win last start. This is tougher and he’s drawn wide which is a worry but just may be so good he overlooks that.
3. LAVALIER, like so many Godolphin horses, is extremely consistent and he has been in this grade. So from a reasonable draw he gets a good run and can run home well enough.
4. BEAU DAZZLER is big odds but 2 months ago he would have been a $6.00 chance. Is 3rd up here and is expected to improve on last start.
Tips: 3 – 7 – 6 – 5
Listed Helen Coughlan F&M
1. Godolphin, in my book, will have a great day and finish with a flurry here landing KIN. She is 3rd up in this and was 3rd up last prep when she won. Can handle fast and slow tracks, drawn well and should be right in this.
2. Local knowledge is a major help and FLOOZIE has never been beaten at this track. Up in class here but did plough through the mud at the Gold Coast last start to win a stakes race and prefers this trip better.
3. COEUR VOLANTE likes it a little longer but has won this trip. Resumes here, has a neat first up record, Mark Zahra to steer and she did race against better opposition last prep.
Tips: 6 – 7 – 1
