Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Railway Stakes

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1  Ascot  Railway Stakes with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. VALOUR ROAD (17) 7x4621x332

T: Simon Miller /J: Brad Rawiller (58kg)

Outstanding galloper at this level and loves this trip. Beaten half a length in fast time by Massimo over 1400m in Gr 2 last start when making ground late. Bad draw but he can go forward. If he slots in with cover, will loom large down the running.

2. MASSIMO (11) 0x6094x221

T: Team Gangemi / J: Clint Johnston-Porter (57.5kg)

Has had a change of heart in terms of his desire to race since changing stables and as a result looms large here. Likes to get out and bowl along. Has won over 1650m. Last start led all the way to claim the 1400m Gr 2 Lee Steere in fast time from Valour Road and Dance Music. Must be respected.

3. THE VELVET KING  (9) 3x70x158x5

T: Darren McAuliffe / J: Kyra Yuill (56.5kg)

Scored a game win when resuming over 1400m in Gr 3 sprint but form after that in 3 runs has been average. Mind you, did work home well when 5th last start behind Massimo and has been freshened. Will get back and does have finishing power.

4. DANCE MUSIC (15) 11x3323x13

T: Simon Miller / J: Brad Parnham (56kg)

Top class mare. Has had two runs this time up and both have been first rate. Up on pace when narrow winner when resuming over Massimo, then last start looked in need of the run game 3rd to Massimo and Valour Road in fast time over 1400m. Gets her favourite trip. Big show,

5. TOO CLOSE THE SUN  (2) 4x750x31x8

T: Lindsey Smith / J: Joe Azzopardi (55kg)

Solid galloper who likes to get out and be with the pace all the way. Beat Tellem We’re Coming over 1300m two runs back over 1300m. But weakened when on speed last start behind Massimo. This may test also.

6. COMFORT ME (16) 5x2117x411

T: Rhys Radford / J: Peter Knuckey (53kg)

Interesting galloper. Going well winning past two starts latest over 1500m. But they were low key handicap races and this should surely test.

7. DIG DEEP (7) 5012475×25

T: Team Pearce / J: Pat Carberry (53kg)

Could be an upset horse at big odds. Is tough and drawn to be about 6th with cover to the bend. Is very fit and after a close-up 2nd in fast time over 1400m, he carried 57.5kg and was beaten 2 lengths by Kaptain Kaos in the Northam Cup. Is 3rd up here and is ready.

8. KAPTAIN KAOS (10) 113×111314

T: Michael Grantham / J: Lucy Warwick (53kg)

Sat a long way back until the bend then sprouted wings to win this trip in the Northam Cup two starts back. Well tried when hitting line well and close up 4th to Kissonallforcheeks in Gr 3 over 1500m last start. Drops in weight here and can show up.

9. KAY CEE (6) 100x096x97

T: Neville Parnham / J: Steve Parnham (53kg)

Good mare on her day. Not having too many of them of late. Latest when 7th to Massimo last start after being last for home. Not keen.

10. KISSONALLFORCHEEKS (1) 01121×2161

T: Dan Morton /J: Chris Parnham (53kg)

Won a stakes race at Bunbury then just beaten at Belmont. Won here beating Kaptain Kaos then thrashed by Western Empire here. Last start won again here at Gr 3 level. Is on her down turn this week.

11. NAUGHTY BY NATURE (12) 22x4211x55

T: Jason Miller /J: Jordan Turner (53kg)

Outstanding galloper on her day. Has had two runs this time up both unplaced behind Dance Music and then Western Empire. May find this tough too.

12. NOTORIOUS ONE (4) 165×131122

T: Team Gangemi / J: Shaun O’Donnell (53kg)

Has found best form of late and rates a good show. Narrowly beaten by Tellem We’re Coming then chased home the flying Western Empire coming from 7th at turn. Has won this trip. Chance.

13. PLATOON  (14) 130284×646

T: Neville Parnham / J: Jason Brown (53kg)

Smart on his day but just hasn’t been finishing his races off for a while. Not keen.

14. SON OF BACCHUS (8) 38x17x4132

T: Rhys Bradford / J: Jason Whiting (53kg)

Racing well in handicaps then stepped up to Gr 3 level here when finished hard to just fail behind Kissonallforcheeks . Outsider here as this is another rise but is in form.

15. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN  (13) 576x221P36

T: Dan Morton / J: Troy Turner (53kg)

Very consistent although did get handled last start in the Lee steers behind Massimo. Saying that, he comes into this very well at the weights. Does need to find a good spot though from this bad draw.

16. WESTERN EMPIRE (3) 43131111×1

T: Team Williams / J: Willy Pike (53kg)

Interesting galloper. Might just be a superstar. Has won his past 5 in a row including the 2400m Derby then last start over 1400m in the Gr 3 Asian Beau. Looks too good.

17. MEDIA BARON (5) 127×474478

T: Dave Harrison / J: Jade McNaught (53kg)

Hard to imagine him not running a great race. Beaten out of a place at past 7 runs.

Tips: 1. WESTERN EMPIRE,  2. Massimo 3. Dance Music, 4. Dig Deep
