The way this race will be run should suit him the most. His effort last start coming from well back, accelerating between runners and dashing away against the track bias was perfection. If he has come on from that run, he wins this. Big show.
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / J: Tim Clark (56.5kg)
Is dynamic and 3rd up here he looks the best of the locally trained horses. Won this trip 3rd up last campaign at Gr 1 level. Does need to lift though as his form has been average.
T: Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou / J: Brenton Avdulla (56kg)
Probably takes up the running or from this gate sits back one length off the speed. His presence means there will be a lot of speed early in the race suiting the back markers. He is 3rd up and is tough so could be bobbing away at the end.
T: Matt Smith / J: Regan Bayliss (55.5kg)
Is the forgotten star here. Is a Gr 1 winner here over a mile in the wet and it will be wet on Saturday. Last start she was speed all the way in the Gr 2 Gold Pendent and just kept fighting to win. Is very tough.
T: Brad Widdup / J: James McDonald (54.5kg)
Luckless mare who surely deserves a Gr 1 win. Has placed 5 times at Gr 1 level without a win but her past two starts when placing after being well back early, say she is ready and everything including the fast early pace will suit her. Rates highly.
T: Chris Waller / J: Tom Berry (54kg)
Interesting galloper. Is tough as teak and is a Gr 1 winner over 1850m. First-up this campaign was a terrific 2nd to Anamoe at Gr 1 level then raced a little flat last start when 5th caught behind runners in the straight to him again with Icebath running past her late too. Can improve a lot.
T:Chris Waller /J: Jason Collett (54kg)
Such a strong mare late and she showed that last start when coming from a mile back with a powerful burst to claim the Gr 2 Theo Marks over 1300m. Has won a strong level this trip but query is if she is up to Gr 1 grade. Last start was good though. Big show.
T:Chris Waller / J: Kerrin McEvoy (51.5kg)
Is peaking and 3rd up here she looks the form horse. Won a Gr 1 last campaign against her own age and now a mature mare she is a weighted special. Only chink in the armour is if two or three others go hard early but she has the ability to sit off the pace and be very strong too. Probably does that and should be flashing home. Very, very hard to beat.
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / J: Rachel King (51kg)
Probably takes up a very forward spot as he has been ridden to be on pace past few and with no weight on his back and a rider who likes to let them run wild in front, he could go very hard and upset a few of these. Is very fit and trained here.
T: Jason Coyle / J: Kathy O’Hara (51kg)
Good mare on her day and carries no weight here. But does mix her form a bit. Handy third to Nimalee last start and meets her no better at the weights.
T: Bjorn Baker / J: Jay Ford (51kg)
Drops 10kg in weight from last start when beaten in a BM 78. Not keen..
