Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1 the $3m Champions Sprint with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps – he has included the potential for a damp track in his thoughts. Good luck!
T; Chris Waller / J: James McDonald (58.5kg)
Champion. Loves this trip and track. Slaughtered when travelling far too wide for too long in the Everest so looks to atone here.
T: Team Hawkes / J: Damien Thornton (58.5kg)
Is a disappointing horse because he has so much talent. On his day he has the finishing power to be in this but is just too inconsistent.
T: Cliff Brown / J; John Allen (58.5kg)
Beaten comfortably by Rothfire, then thrashed by Bella Nipotina. Not likely to test any of these.
T: Rob Heathcote/ J: Luke Nolen (58.5kg)
Such a good sprinter. Looked great in running 2nd to Bella Nipotina at Gr 1 level last start. Will appreciate the straight track and he will be right in this finish.
T: James Cummings / J: Brenton Avdulla (58.5kg)
Racing inconsistently but is very capable on his day. Showed that two runs back when winning under difficulty. Can’t win off last start when 8th but is better than that.
T: Geoff Duryea / J: Ben Melham (58.5kg)
Great, fast, tough bush horse but wow, up a long, long way in grade here. Won like a smart one first up but this is about 8 lengths harder.
T: Team Corstens /J: Nash Rawiller (58.5kg)
Was well beaten into 6th on a heavy behind Bella Nipotina but improved when ridden in front and 3rd to Argentia last start. This is a fair bit harder though so looks held.
T: Tony Gollen / J: Mark Zahra (58.5kg)
This is a really strong and vastly improved racehorse down from Queensland. Won at Gr 2 level this trip here beating the Gr 1 winner Roch ‘N’ Horse then ran a good 3rd to the very much in form Private Eye last start here this trip. Can cause a boiler.
T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J: Jamie Kah (56.5kg)
Just destroyed a good Gr 1 field this trip last start. Is very consistent and now that she has broken through and won at Gr 1 level, she might go on with it. Has improved lengths this prep..
T: Chris Waller / J: Damien Oliver (56.5kg)
T: Michael Moroney /J: Jamie Mott (56.5kg)
Won the Gr 1 Newmarket this track beating Nature Strip home in a funny run race. Carried no weight that day but her form since has been super. Was runner up to the smart Private Eye who was 2nd in the Everest at his next start, last start. She has a great record this track.
T: Team Kelso / J: Michael Dee (56.5kg)
May be the blow out horse. Not raced since 4th in the Gr 1 Newmarket behind Rich ‘N’ Horse. She is a multiple Gr 1 winner in NZ and is unbeaten in many starts when first up. Is first up here.
T: Team Freedman / J: Tim Clark (56.5kg)
Very smart and won a nice lead up to this last start. Harder field this time around and WFA scale is a concern but is consistent.
T: Clayton Douglas / J: Craig Williams (53.5kg)
How good is this bloke? We will know after this. Is unbeaten in 5 race starts latest when motoring past Nature Strip to claim the Everest in Sydney with some stars like Private Eye and Mazu behind him also. Should love this track. In fact has raced here twice and won both times.
T: Julius Sandhu /J: Craig Newitt (53.5kg)
This is a very smart 3YO who is 3rd up now after two very good runs in his age group. Up in class along way but will run a good race.
