Queensland Oaks Preview

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s $700k Gr 1 Qld Oaks with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps his South Aussie classic. Good luck!

1. FIREBURN (16) 554×694341

T; Chris Waller/ J: James McDonald (57kg)

SCRATCHED

2. AFFAIRE A SUIVRE (13) 57×3111

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J: John Allen (56.5kg)

Is special and more importantly is honest. Has stormed home to win at past three runs, latest when narrow victor of the Gr 1 Australasian Oaks. So can stay and knows how to win. Probably sits midfield and will come with a barnstorming finishing burst.

3. RENAISSANCE WOMAN (6) x67169x612

T: Bjorn Baker / J; Josh Parr (56.5kg)

Smart emerging staying star who won very impressively in NSW before coming north and flying home to just fail behind Fireburn in the big lead-up race. Prim ed for this and has been backed.

4. SO DAZZLING (11) 5130×82020

T: John Sargent / J: Craig Williams (56.5kg)

Very in and out type but when she is in she is right up to this. Flashed home for impressive 2nd in the Gr 1 ATC Oaks over 2400m, then didn’t fire a shot last start behind Fireburn. Likes this trip more.

5. TYRESA (12) 60538×9800

T: Kelly Schweida / J: Larry Cassidy  (56.5kg)

Has talent but seems to have gone off the boil. Not keen.

6. NOAH ‘N’ A DEEL (10) 613122×088

T: Les Kelly / J: Sean Cormack (56.5kg)

Was looming as a class runner last prep but in three runs this time up hasn’t really shown enough to warrant a chance her.

7. SAKURA GIRL (21) 16521623

T: Ben Foote / J: Opie Bosson (56.5kg)

Good Kiwi stayer who looks to be right up to these. Probably leads these. Did that last start when a gutsy close up 3rd to Fireburn and renaissance Woman in the 2000m The Roses. has claims.

8. SUPER CHILLED (18) 0211×74426

T: Chris Waller /J: James Mcdonald (56.5kg)

Might be peaking at exactly the right time. Finished well when beaten a nose by Renaissance Woman in the Bracelet over 1800m, then again was making v very good ground when 6th to Fireburn. This longer trip suits even more.

9. MADAME ODETTE (3) 1418×7257

T:  Tony Gollan /J: Ryan Maloney (56.5kg)

This filly is pretty handy and always seems to be right in the finish but has only won two of 8 starts. Beaten 6 lengths by Fireburn last start weakening late.

10. LET ME REIGN (14) 41317×4061

T: Team Curtis/ J: James Orman(56.5kg)

Coming up through different form lines. On speed when too strong over 2000m last start in Sydney in restricted race. This is harder but has speed, stamina and fitness.

11. DIVINE PURPOSE (4) 3x111x1023

T: Clinton Taylor / J: Ben Thompson (56.5kg)

Bush horse with talent but this rise in grade will test. Beaten into 3rd at Ipswich last start on a heavy track. This should test.

12. PROSCENIUM ARCH (8) 1337×98554

T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young /J: Tim Clark (56.5kg)

Good honest type who comes here off a great number of solid runs. Ran 4th last week in the Fireburn race with eye-catching finish and was 5th to Affaire A Suivre in the Gr 1 Australasian Oaks the run. before. Place.

13. ORIGINAL GAZE (2) 4317211012

T: Trevor Lambourn /J: Michael Murphy (56.5kg)

Restricted class galloper who is bred to stay. And has won three of past five starts but all in much weaker bush grade. Not likely.

14. CHEVAL D’OR (20) 332431

T: Tony Pike / J: Michael McNab (56.5kg)

Here’s a roughie to have a saver on. Is from New Zealand and can stay all day. Beaten 2 lengths by Sakura Girl in a 2100m stakes race, then beaten a length by Arby in a Gr 3 and last start in the mud was far too good in the 2100m Trelawny Stud Stakes over 2100m. Has claims

15. REO (5) 611×19

T: Richard Laming / J: Martin Harley  (56.5kg)

Interesting runner. Won a low key BM 64 at Sandown over 1500m when resuming then up in class in the Fireburn race and was 9th of 16. This is harder but seems like a stayer in waiting.  So has claims.

16. YANKEE HUSSEL (9) 7140×43765

T: Kris Lees / J: Andrew Mallyon (56.5kg)

This is harder than past few have been interesting runs in and around this grade. Can stay. Watch market.

17. AMOKURA (1) 62711

T: Kris Lees / J: Damien Oliver (56.5kg)

Money is pouring in fir this filly. She won her maiden two runs back by a huge margin and last start up to Class 1 grade won easily too. Obviously can stay but this is a big rise in class. Monitor her however.

18. CARING LASS (19) 3×74104781

T: Matthew Smith /J: Rachel King (56.5kg)

Drawn poorly and only wins have been in mjuch easier grade. Not keen.

19. FIREFLIES (15) 6×311362

T:  Brett Cavanagh/J: Jake Bayliss (56.5kg)

Bush filly who seems to have some talent but not enough to trouble the better ones in this..

20. KALEA (22) 717×592423

T: Renita Beaton /J: Chad Schofield (56.5kg)

Nice tough filly but is aiming way too high in this.

21. ROCKBARTON ROAD (23) x3471x1453

T: Joe Cleary /J: Tegan Harrison (56.5kg)

Would be a miracle if she won. Is a bush filly who has been beaten in weaker gated of late,

22. CALIFORNIA GRASS (17) 5551

T:  John Thompson /J: – (56.5kg)

Only one win from 4 starts but that win, in considerably weaker grade, was handy. Very rough place show.

23. ARTFUL GIRL (7) 765551

T: Kevin Kempe /J: Marnu Potgieter (56.5kg)

Nice tough filly but is aiming way too high in this.
