Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews today’s big Canberra meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for 3 races. Good luck, punters!
Track: Soft 7
I like the look of this 2YO here in FIRST GRANGE. He is rangy and talented and is trained by Robert Quinn who recently had a city winner. First Grange resumes here after a 3rd at Bathurst on debut where he stormed home in a tough juvenile race from midfield. Will take a great deal of benefit from that outing. He also will like this track as he seems to take time to wind up. I suspect the market needs to be closely monitored here. The hardest to beat may be DEHERO who has the rails draw and comes off a solid finishing 4th at this level on debut. Quinella them.
Tip: FIRST GRANGE
The scratchings make this an easier race to map I believe. For instance I think TIP TOP TIMING drives to the front this time from gate rise. He is very fit and should get there unopposed. If they then leave him alone mid-race I suspect he keeps bobbing as they straighten and hangs on for a win. LOAFING’s big weight is off-set by 2kg with Molly Bourke to ride and he can plug home here, on his home track, to grab the second spot for the quinella bet.
Tip: TIP TOP TIMING
He has to come a long way to compete here but the Dubbo horse HIT THE RIM does look nicely placed on recent form. Don’t worry about the fact he has drawn the outside of the field and will carry a big top weight as he will allow them to go out hard and settle in behind them. He is very fit and well up to this after a strong 6th in town then a game 2nd in a Tamworth BM83 last start. Will storm home from the back.
