Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Tuesday’s Brierly Steeple Day at the ‘Bool meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for the five best bets of the day. Good luck, punters!
Warrnambool R 1 – Mdn Hurdle Hcp 3200m
This looks a nice race for the top one in AQUILA VOLARE. Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace certainly know how to train stayers with them winning a Melbourne Cup last year and last weekend’s Oaks in Adelaide at Gr 1 level. So this bloke, on debut over the sticks but boasting two flat race wins, looks the one to beat. He will be well schooled and will stay all day. Throw in CONTRADEEL for 2nd. Quinella bet.
Tip: AQUILA VOLARE
Warrnambool R2 – Maiden Hurdle (3YO+) 3200m
Fascinating affair. I very much like the fact that TEOFILO STAR has raced over the sticks previously and therefore is now ready. On debut over the fences he led and was gunned down late this grade narrowly losing. That run will tighten him upon no end. Should lead all the way. Interesting runner is the horse having its very first start, HALF MAST. He is half owned by Ciaron Maher but is not trained by him. Racing for the very first time and it’s a two mile hurdle maiden. Worth watching.
Tip: TEOFILO STAR
Warrnambool R4 – Mdn Plate (2YO +) 1200m
I do like the look of BOOMINARTIE here. This will be his 4th race start and his second this campaign. Got back over 1300m last start at Bendigo this grade but caught the eye when flying home for 3rd. This is easier but he is coming back 100m. Really would love to see LUV THE BOOl run 2nd. Mainly because of his name and racing for the first time at the bool. Did place last start at another track this grade. Quinella them.
Tip: BOOMINARTIE
Warrnambool R5- Gold Strike (2YO) 1000m
I think the top weight here ATLANTIC SPIRIT can motor home over these. Has the race experience and although not been placed in anything yet from 3 starts, does have talent and is dropping in grade here. Watch for a big run from the unrated ROMANTIC CHOICE.
Tip: ATLANTIC SPIRIT
Warrnambool R6 – Brierly Steeplechase 3450m
Pretty open affair with many chances but I think old VALAC might surprise a lot of people. The grey horse is going to be 12 years old soon but he still has a zest for these races. Not far away on the flat when resuming over 2400m last start and being fresh he may well go to the front early here. If so, he can jump, has won $601,000 in prize money and last August was 3rd to rival FLYING AGENT in the 4200m Crisp. Meets him 3.5kg better off. Quinella them.
