Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for the five best bets of the weekend. Good luck, punters!
Sandown Hillside Race 7 – Coronation Cup 1800m
15:40 (local time)
GLOBE is working through the ranks nicely, winning all 3 starts to date. It was a dominant win last time out at Sandown Hillside when he ran away from them over the final furlong.
Although he is stepping up in grade here, he should jump to the front again and with the lightweight of 53kgs (8kgs drop from last start) he certainly does appear to be the one they will have to beat.
Tip: GLOBE
Morphettville Race 7 – Robert Sangster Stakes (Group 1) 1200m
15:25 (local time)
Looking for some value here in the four-year-old mare ESPIONA, who is coming off a Group 1 victory of her own in the Coolmore Classic during the Autumn carnival at Randwick. Although the 1200m is short of her best distance, she has had a nice freshen up and has won at the trip previously.
She is well suited to a wet track if that comes her way and we can look for her to be sitting just off the speed and hoping to see her swoop upon them late.
Tip: ESPIONA
Sunshine Coast Race 6 – Gold Coast Guineas (Group 3) 1200m
16:13 (local time)
Sticking with one of my favorites in RUSSIAN CONQUEST to finally get a Group victory under her belt. She races very well fresh (3:1-1-1) and I can see her getting a nice drag into the race on the big open spaces of the Sunshine Coast, launching late down the outside. A nice each way play at decent odds.
Tip: RUSSIAN CONQUEST
Sunshine Coast Race 7 – Hollindale Stakes (Group 2) 1800m
17:00 (local time)
Hard to go past ZAAKI in this prestigious Group 2 race usually run on the Gold Coast. He has won this race the past two years and is aiming for the hat trick this time around.
First up he stuck to his guns brilliantly in the All Aged Stakes behind Giga Kick and he looks a class above his opponents here.
Tip: ZAAKI
Ascot Race 6 – Perth Handicap 1200m
15:24 (local time)
Really liked the way ABOVE THE PEG finished off his race last time out when he was first up from a spell. Has won second up in the past and loves track/distance (5:2-2-0).
Does have to contend with his nemesis from last time again but I’m tipping him to get the money this time around.
