- Ascot - Race 8
- (1600)
- November 25, 2023
1. Tuvalu (4)
Top class Melbourne campaigner who is in form. That tends to be very strong form leading into this. Placed at past few at Gr 1 level. Drawn perfectly here too. Looms as the one to beat.

2. Marocchino (14)
Is the epitome of an in and out type. More than capable on his day – two starts back he showed that when leading all the way to easily claim the Gr 2 Asian Beau (1400) in very fast time with 61kg, which is always a strong lead up to this. Started $101 that day then last week attempted to do the same thing at $5 and wilted in the Gr 2 over 1400m. Place.

3. Comfort Me (18)
Likes to be on or near pace but this draw makes it tough. Last start went home well in fast run 1400m Gr2 Lee Steere when 3rd to Valour Road. Fitter now and has won this trip but that draw …

4. Dom To Shoot (12)
Can sit back or lead. Is versatile and talented at this level. Finished hard from 5th for home when beaten less than a length last start in fast run Gr 2 Lee Steere grabbing 2nd. Bound to be right in this finish too.

5. Roots (15)
Sydney mare who has won at this trip and more importantly is in sparkling form. Ran very fast 1400m time claim the Gr 2 Hot Danish last start at Rosehill. Probably has to go back early from this gate but can finish hard.

6. Trix Of The Trade (1)
Won this race last year with 53kg coming home out wide like a train late to beat rival again Comfort Me. Two runs this time up have been only average but is better placed this journey and is super fit now. Rails draw is interesting as he will be back in the ruck about 7th for home on the fence and will need to get a run. If he does, he’s a player.

7. Alsephina (7)
Is extremely honest and can run fast time. Beaten less than a length by Marocchino in 1.21.78 which is good enough to win this, then backed that up with a strong-finishing 2nd at 1500m in Gr 3 Peters with 59kg. Gets home hard, drawn to receive a great run and big hope.

Ready to Fire
8. Bustler (2)
Good galloper who is 3rd up here and has drawn perfectly. Has proven to be very handy but also a length or so behind the top ones. The draw makes him a bit of a chance here as he can run on.

9. Forgot You (19)
Such a shame he has drawn the car park. Melbourne form of late has been impressive and he is very fit. Draws inside 10 and I rate him a major hope, but…Probably turns for home about 15th now and can run home but may give a couple of these a tad too much head start.

10. Karli's Karma (8)
Ran nearly last in this race last year and has raced just 4 times since, latest when a shock winner in average time last start over 1400m beating Valour Road. Is probably not up to the best of them but that win was solid.

11. Last Of The Line (13)
Form had been strong including a terrific first up 3rd in fast run Asian Beau but then inexplicably ran a shocker last start when last of 13 to Valour Road. was near last all the way and he’s a horse that likes to be on pace. Needs to lift to have a hope here.

Good on Soft
12. Massimo (17)
Best runs for some time have been his past 2 efforts – both times finishing 4th in solid lead-up races. But, he’s drawn deep and if he goes forward which he will, he probably gets trapped wide all the way.

Good on Soft
13. Mojo Rhythm (6)
Was finding low key handicaps tough until somehow he stunned the world finishing like a train at big odds to win the Gr 3 RJ Peters here last start from Alsephina who she meets 6kg worse off here. Place at best.

14. Searchin' Roc's (5)
Drawn well and has talent. Won 2 starts back over 1400m in easier grade then last start beaten 3 lengths by Marocchino and Alsephina here in fast Gr 3. Not keen – unless it’s wet. She grows a leg in the mud.

Good on Soft
15. Startrade (10)
Won a Gr 3 back in May but in 4 starts since hasn’t reached that level. Not likely.

16. The Velvet Queen (16)
Did win the Ascot Mile back in Feb and has been thereabouts in 2 starts since against these types. Not drawn well but does appreciate this journey more than most.

17. Casino Seventeen (3)
Consistent type who can finish and always puts in. Sadly, he’s just a length or so behind the good ones here. Can stay so may rocket past a few tired ones late.

Good on Soft
18. Let's Galahvant (Em2) (9)
Not the roughest. Has speed early so will be on pace and past 2 starts have been solid, winning the 1600m Northam Cup and last start beaten less than a length by Mojo Rhythm in Gr 3. Rough place show.

19. River Rubicon (11)
Gets back, runs on but at this level he will only pass a few tiring ones late. Not keen.
