1. Overpass (16)
Is super fast and likes to lead. Has one inside who is also very quick but on his day he is probably the fastest horse in Australia and I suspect he can cross. Has won 3 from 3 here and did win this race last year. Is 3rd up and looks the one to beat again.

2. Western Empire (4)
Versatile and talented. Can sit back and run on or be with speed and off this draw he gets a good look at the flyers from the get-go. Is in form and looks the main challenger to Overpass. Flashed home when 2nd to Rope Them in last start over 1100m. Respect him.

3. Red Can Man (11)
Old timer who once was right up to this level but age has wearied him. Not keen.

4. Hot Zed (2)
Is 2nd up here after a dismal effort last start when 10th to Rope Them In. Not keen.

5. Maharba (6)
Victorian who is in career-best form. Actually, his win last start at Flemington over 1200m in fast time was a peak-career performance. He is getting better with racing too. Major player.

6. Saloon Bar (13)
From this gate will go back and be about 11th for home. But, don’t despair as he can really muster late and is in super form. Stormed ho,me from last on bend when 3rd to Rope Them In in leadup race over 1100m last start. Extra 100m is a big help.

7. Man Crush (7)
Doesn’t seem up to this level. Did win easier 1200m in Sept at Belmont but was last ton Rope Them In last start. Not keen.

Good on Soft
8. Snowdome (10)
Won a stake race this trip this time last year but 4 runs since have been average. Led and weakened when 6th to Rope Them In last start. No.

Good on Soft
9. Rope Them In (9)
Getting better with racing has to be included in the chances. Came with a rush from midpack last start to claim the Gr 3 Reeves over 1100m beating most of these. Drawn to get an economical run and looks a player again.

10. Boots Like Bruce (14)
Can run and loves it wet but draw is a worry. Near speed when plodding 7th to Rope Them In last start over 1100m. Not all that keen.

11. Bravo Centurion (15)
Is the query horse and the new kid on the block. Yet to race at this level but has won 6 of his 8 starts and placed in the other two. Likes to lead and here is my problem. Will try and match motors with Overpass and that’s a fatal flaw as Overpass is super fast. Both have drawn wide. The last 100m will test him.

12. Rockin' Rupert (3)
Has talent. Did win 3 of 4 in restricted grade before stepping up to stakes class and running the race of his life last start when 5th to Rope Them In over 1100m. Made ground late so extra 100m will suit. This grade is tough though.

13. Almighty Class (5)
Lightly raced and has drawn perefctly. Is in form too but does spot a couple of these a bit of class. May sneak a place at big odds.

14. Crippalenko (8)
Not really expected to trouble the better ones here. Ran 3rd in stakes race beaten a long way by Bravo Centurion before being thrashed last start behind Rope Them In. Not keen.

15. Lady Laguna (1)
Just the one ride for Jay Mac so it’s a long way to fly for just one ride. Connections must think she has a massive hope. Is a top class mare and must be included in main hopes.

16. Laced Up Heels (12)
Isn’t up to this grade and wouldn’t win with a headstart.
