1. Desert Lightning (11)
Kiwi Gr 1 star now with Pete and Kat and starting to thrive. Sat just off the speed before unleashing late to beat Craig in the Gr 3 Sandown Stakes last start over 1500m. Has won up to 2100m and now that he’s in form he must be considered.

3. Antino (8)
Queensland star who has a lot of things on his side here. Is very fit and this is his pet trip. Ran his heart out and was making ground when 3rd to the champs Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside at WFA last start. From this gate he should just sit off the speed and is weighted to hit the line hard. Big show.

4. Another Wil (1)
Ok, the big test today. Has long been touted a superstar in the making and his two wins from two starts this time up suggest he is very close to claiming that title. Has won 7 of his 10 starts and been placed twice, only failure was when beaten 2 lengths in the Gr 1 Doncaster after drawing gate 16. Won 3 from 3 this track and has the rails draw here. Looks the one to beat.

Proven Winner
5. Light Infantry Man (5)
Stablemate of Another Will but unlike him, just cannot find the right lanes to win races. Not keen.

Good on Soft
6. Orchestral (6)
Multiple Gr 1 winner and has done it in both NZ and here. One start this prep made ground late when beaten less than 2 lengths over 1400m with big weight in NZ. Is unbeaten 2nd up and would not be here if they didn’t think she was ready. Respect.

Proven Winner
7. Alsephina (10)
West Australian Gr1 star who has had two starts this prep, both in Melbourne and looked outstanding each time. Will be at peak for this. Last start finished very hard from midfield to claim the 1514m Gr 2 Stocks Stakes which is always a good lead-up race for this. Is almost unbeatable at this trip and should be considered.

8. Bank Maur (4)
Drawn to run well but he is inconsistent. Probably sits in 4th with the run of the race. Last start carried 5.5kg less than Desert Lightning over 1500m and couldn’t get within 2 lengths of him. Not keen.

Likes Dry Track
9. Craig (12)
Lightly raced but is very honest having won 3 and placed 4 times from 7 starts. The latest was a fast finishing 2nd to Desert Lighning over 1500m in Gr 2. Draw is awkward and meets Desert Lightning 2kg worse for being beaten by him last start. Place at best.

Place Performer
10. Jimmy The Bear (7)
Mildura Cup winner who made a bit of late ground when beaten 4 lengths by Another Will last start. Better suited this trip but this looks a little too rich.

Good on Soft
11. Magnaspin (2)
Has talent and can run at this level, plus he is drawn perfectly. Also, if it rains he will take a power of beating. Ran on nicely into 3rd behind Desert Lightning and Craig last start but not well suited at the weights.

Good on Soft
12. Osipenko (3)
Hasn’t won for a while but has finishing talent on his day. was 6th in the Gr 1 Stradbroke after being 17th for home and last start was 4th in Gr 2 Shannon over 1500m after being near last for home. Can sneak a place at big odds.

13. Wishlor Lass (9)
Lightweight here will help and she looks the likely leader. Has won this trip at Group level when left alone in front and last start when resuming was a very game 2nd to Another Will. If she has improved off that run she looks hard to beat. Plus, she has a great 2nd up record.
