1. Duke De Sessa (2)
Tip, top chance. Is in better form than last prep and last prep he was on speed and raced away to win the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m. This is easier BUT, he has gone up 4.5kg and this is 800m further. Gets up on speed, was 2nd at WFA last start behind the star Dubai Honour and he will do the same here from this gtae. Massive threat to the fav.

2. Arapaho (12)
Is a WFA winner of the Gr 1 Tancred over 2400m last year. is very honest and grows a leg if the track is damp. Which it probably will be on Saturday. Is very fit and last start was a solid 4th to Dubai Honour in this year’s Tancred. Looms large as he will be on pace and can stay.

Good on Soft
3. Zarir (5)
This may come around a start or two too soon but he is a genuine Gr 1 horse in France and his Aussie debut was handy when 9th to Dubai Honour in the Gr 1 Tancred. Likes it wet too. Did win 2nd up last year though so watch market.

4. Circle Of Fire (22)
Won this race last year after a great ride, but carried no weight. Goes up 3.5kg for winning last year when he easily beat Athabascan. Later ran a great 6th in the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup. Not far away when on speed and 5th in the Gr 1 Tancred last start. Is coming along very nicely and loves this journey. Has claims.

Ready to Fire
5. Athabascan (4)
Runner-up in this race last year and has had 4 average runs since resuming. May find this tough as he has been thrashed by Alalcance at past 3 starts, but has drawn nicely and can stay.

6. Zardozi (3)
Is the class in the field and has drawn perfectly. Racing in top form too. Is a Gr 1 winner over 2500m, was 4th in both the Gr 1 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and if it’s wet she probably wins this easily. Must have in your numbers.

Ready to Fire
7. Warmonger (20)
Is a Gr 1 winner but is mixing his form this time around. Can’t win on poor run last start, but run prior was handy. Can stay and if his mind is on the job he can finish hard.

8. Alalcance (15)
Looks to me to be a weighted certainty. Can stay all day, will lead them and should explode away as they turn.

Proven Winner
9. River Of Stars (11)
May be the sleeping giant in this field. Is from France where her form was outstanding for this including a Gr 1 placing under 59kg over 2800m. Sweated up badly and raced aggressively at Aussie debut in the Gr 1 Tancred last start when, after leading faded to 7th. Will strip immeasurably fitter and wont know herself with this lightweight. Big show.

Ready to Fire
10. Cleveland (18)
Resumed from long spell with solid 4th to Alalacance last start, beaten 4 lengths but meets her 3kg better. Not really keen.

11. Francesco Guardi (13)
Is racing poorly and wouldn’t win this with a headstart.

Good on Soft
12. Lastotchka (23)
Was 13th in the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup and in 3 subsequent runs she has been thrashed twice by Alalcance. Not keen.

13. Mostly Cloudy (10)
Comes into this in form and with no weight. Led and ran 3rd last start at Flemington over 2600m in weaker race but drops 6kg. Was 18th in the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup last year.

14. Tajanis (19)
Lightly weighted rising staying star who was runner up in the Gr 2 Auckland Cup over 3200m last start carrying 3kg more. Had previously won city races in Sydney including the stakes race Australia Day Cup over 2400m beating Taramansour. This is harder but is in great form and could easily place.

15. Birdman (1)
Caught the eye last start with his powerhouse finish from 14th on turn behind Alalcance. Meets her 1.5kg worse off for being beaten nearly 3 lengths but was flying the last 100m suggesting this trip will suit. Can place.

Ready to Fire
16. Valiant King (16)
Is slowly running himself into top form and his game 3rd to Alalacance last start in the Gr 2 Chairmans over 2600m was a good run. Was on speed all the way. Did run 13th in the Melbourne Cup. However, does meet the mare 1.5kg worse off for losing to her last start.

Ready to Fire
17. Garachico (6)
Brings interesting and different formlines to this. Can stay. That’s the first hurdle cleared and is very fit. Hits the line hard too. Melb Cup winning jock Robbie Dolan rides and should be beautifully placed all the way from this gate. But, just may be short of class late.

18. Strathtay (9)
Can stay and is running himself into form. Not a bad run when coming from 18th at the bend and finishing 5th to Alalalcance last start over 2600m. Drops 3kg here but the compressed weight scale makes it hard to really like him.
-
Good on Soft
19. Age Of Sail (17)
Handy stayer who likes it wet. Started $101 yet finished well for 4th to Alalcance last week in the Gr 2 2600m Charimans. Is fit, carries no weight and can stay all day but this is pretty hard.
-
Good on Soft
20. Waltham (14)
Handy stayer who drops 5kg on his 8th, beaten 6 lengths to Alalcance last start. This may be too tough but does imporve on wet ground.
-
Good on Soft
21. Hopeful (Em1) (7)
Started at $61 last start and wasn’t disgraced finishing a good 5th to Alalcance last start in the Chairmans. Likes it wet. This is lengths harder but does drop 3kg. Not really keen.

22. Mr Waterville (Em2) (8)
