1. Mr Brightside (11)
What a grand old superstar this bloke is. Just keeps finding himself in these top drawer races and keeps finding his way onto the podium. Has won twice won at Gr 1 level this preparation although blotted his copybook a little when a plodding 5th in the Gr 1 Australian Cup behind Cascadian last start. On his day he can win this but there does seem to be a concern that the mare Pride Of Jenni when engaged in races with him, breaks his heart.

2. Cascadian (6)
What a war-horse. Won his 2nd Gr 1 Australian Cup this trip last start at Flemington coming with a stunning finishing burst to grab Pride Of Jenni on the wire. Is back to his best, loves this track where he has won at Gr 1 level and just runs his heart out for Ben melham. Looks a major player.

3. Buckaroo (2)
Keeps finishing just behind the placegetters at this level always doing enough to say I’m a threat next time. Well, he’s had 3 starts this time up including a disappointing 5th in the Gr 1 Tancred over 2400m last start, so not sure he is going to fulfill his promise.

Good on Soft
4. Lindermann (10)
Two runs back he carried 58kg and won the Gr 3 Sky High over this trip in fast time with his head on his chest. Kalapour who carried 2.5kg less than him that day came out and won at Gr 1 level at his next run. But, just when you thought Lindermann had stepped up to the very top level, he ran poorly in the Gr 1 Doncaster last week with just 50.5kg. Ok, he wasn’t ridden well but that inconsistency means he is hard to follow. hates it wet also.

5. Kovalica (7)
Enigmatic type. hasn’t been far away in 3 starts this time up all at Gr 1 level. last week was 9th in the Gr 1 Doncaster but was getting to the line and he can stay. Did win the Gr 1 QTC Derby over 2400m by a big space last year. Last year was 2nd in the Gr 1 Epsom over a mile here. Hard to have but has talent.

Good on Soft
6. Zeyrek (4)
Moved up at the 200m, took the lead but wilted in the last 100m when 2nd under 55.5kg in the weaker Gr 3 Sellwood this trip last start. Is fit and a solid racehorse but Gr 1 level always finds him out.

7. Pride Of Jenni (3)
Superstar from Melbourne who looks perfectly placed here. Is the only pace in the race and she will lead these at will. Did that last strat in the Gr 1 Australian Cup and was nabbed on the line by Cascadian. Is 4th up into this, so is profoundly fitter for that very fast run last start (they just missed the track record). Can handle fast or slow tracks and will appear the winner with 150m to go. And probably on the line too.

Ready to Fire
8. Via Sistina (5)
Outstanding mare one of the best on the planet. Won at Gr 1 level in Europe then was sold for $5.5million to come down here and at first Aussie run, came with a powerful burst to win the Gr 1 Ranvet at Rosehill over this trip. Can only be better following that effort and has been very heavily tried to win this. Sure to run an almighty race.

10. Place Du Carrousel (8)
Another European star who comes here after a stellar career in Paris where she won at gr 1 level this journey but in the wet. At first Aussie start, she loomed up took the lead at the 200m and was cut down late by Via Sistina in the Gr 1 Ranvet. That will tighten her right up. In Europe her BEST form was when 2nd up – she won 3 from 3 and she is 2nd up in this. Huge threat.

11. Ceolwulf (1)
Top class 3yo who last week came from the clouds to narrowly lose the Gr 1 Australian Derby over 2400m. That followed another 2nd when beaten less than a length in the Gr 1 Rosehill Guineas this trip. Against the older horses here and coming back 400m may be a challenge but he is tough.
