- Caulfield - Race 9
- (1100m)
- February 24, 2024
1. Kallos (15)
Very smart sprinter on his day. Came with a powerful burst late down the centre of the track to win a crucial lead-up to this last start when resuming. Has that sort of class when his mind is on the job. Is fitter now and will be storming home again.

2. Asfoora (11)
Star mare who is right in this. Always on speed when a gallant 2nd to Kallos last start over this trip here in fast time. Starts from the same gate again this time and is fitter now. Sure to be right in it as she love this track. Has won 4 times here including at Gr 2 level.

3. Skew Wiff (3)
Classy Kiwi mare who has won at Gr 1 level in NZ and stormed home at Flemington to claim the 1400m Gr 3 HKJ Club in November. Trialled well but this may be a tad too short. Will be making ground late and has a great draw.

Good on Soft
4. Sghirripa (13)
This is a good racehorse and he seems to be getting better every run. Resumes here coming off a pair of sprint stakes wins a few months back. Bolted in recently in a trial and although awkwardly drawn, it may pay to have him in your numbers.

5. Chain Of Lightning (10)
Solid mare who always runs boldly at this level. May be just a length behind the best of them though. Weakened badly over 1400m last start.

Good on Soft
6. Najem Suhail (8)
Fast horse who will ping the lids here, drive forward and be on the bunny with the leading few from the get-go. His last 100m is his Achilles heal though. Very consistent placegetter who will give you a big sight.

7. Recommendation (4)
Good draw here for him sets him up for a big race. Has a lot of speed and should find the fence in 3rd spot behind a cracking pace. Goes well at this trip and should be right in the fray here. Is very honest.

Good on Soft
8. Benedetta (5)
Terrific mare in weaker grade while fresh and she resumes here. Every prep has got better and better so she may be a player here at big odds. Only start here was a 1200m stakes win in good time. Drawn well too. Keep safe.

Track Talent
9. Brudenell (6)
Very fast restricted class sprinter from Newcastle who has won 8 races from 15 starts. This will test but he will drive forward from this gate and be there for a fair while. Ran handy time with 59kg last start to win 1000m hcp at Randwick.

10. Hypothetical (9)
Back in November last year she led all the way to win here this trip in fast time under 54kg. Then. was spelled. Resumed and led until the last 100m when fading 4th to Kallos here in Gr 2 Rubiton. If she takes improvement from that and given she is good 2nd up, she might be a bit of a player here.

11. Lempicka (14)
Interesting mare. Unlike most in this race, she drops back and runs on. And, she can run on very fast. Won three straight including a stakes race here beating Hypothetical last prep. Has an awesome, stunning, in fact fresh record and resumes here. This is very strong though.

12. Mornington Glory (7)
Good, solid, consistent restricted-grade sprinter who, after two low-key wins took on Gr 2 level last start and far from disgraced when running on into 5th behind Kallos. Beaten 2 lengths that day and meets him 5kg better. May sneak a place at odds.

13. Queman (2)
Very good short-course speedster from Sth Australia who knows how to hit the line. After winning a string of restricted-class races in Adelaide, came here and in a stakes race, finished over the top of Najem Suhail to win 1000m in fast time. Not served well at the weights but is handy.

Proven Winner
14. Rey Magnerio (12)
Unheralded stablemate of Najem Suhail who might even beat his mate home. Has handsomely won 4 of his past 5 starts in restricted grade very impressively and in fast time. Awkwardly drawn here but if he gets a clear run, with this lightweight, he might be right in this as he is very honest. Sobering thought though, this is a big rise in grade.

Proven Winner
15. King's Gambit (1)
Potential superstar colt. Has repeatedly carried 57kg and run home his last 600m in 33 and change during his career. Which is better than all his rivals. Carries no weight here so he should fly home faster than any horse late. So, now we look at his fresh record. It is outstanding. And he’s had 2 trials of late. Now, the draw. He has the fence. He will have to use it and therefore go a little harder early than usual, but he is older and mature now so should handle that. If he gets clear air in the straight, he could thrash these.
