Gr 1 – Northerly Stakes Preview

Very capable of winning this on his day. Is a bit hit and miss, but watch market. He’s 2nd up into this. If there is money and he’s alert in the yard, have him in your numbers.

Is in sparkling form. Comes from Victoria and is ready for Gr 1 glory. Having knocked over Kovalica in a Gr 2 at Rosehill, he ran a courageous 4th in the $2million Five Diamonds this trip beaten a length by Pericles who would be a $2.90 chance in this. Must be considered.

Drawn perfectly and will be on speed all the way, but the query is the trip. He’s never won this journey and did weaken over a mile last start behind Port Lockroy in the Gr 1 Railway. Is fitter now but probably not a great bet.

Got well back and stormed home to beat Bustler over 1400m before getting back again in the Gr 1 Railway over a mile and not finishing it off. Better suited this trip and certainly given how he races deserves one more chance. Place.

Is just another smart but inconsistent galloper at this level. Needs everything to go his way. Won at Flemington in stakes grade over a mile 7 Nov but last start finished 12th to Port Lockroy in the Gr 1 Railway. is better than that. Track last start may have been too hard. Place, but take on trust.

Old-timer with zing still in is legs. Likes to get out and lead and if he can from this gate without being challenged he could run a bold race at big odds. This is strong though and he will be vulnerable late.

Has been disappointing this campaign but on his day he could whizz past these. New distance may spark his attention. Seemed all at see on WA debut in the Gr 1 Railway last start when he only plodded home beaten 4 lengths. Will appreciate this more and should run a lot better.

Will be big odds and will be near last as they settle and from this gate probably will still be there as they turn for home. But, he is fit now, very fit and if he gets to the outside he will charge home over this journey. His last win was in a 2000m Gr 3 race in June but he is ready to run a blinder here especially if track is damp.

Started $101 in the Gr 1 Railway over a mile and made good ground late beating many of his rivals in this race home. Will be big odds again but is racing well and may sneak a place. Drawn well enough too.

Handy on his day but form has fallen away since coming to town to race in these tougher events. Not keen.

Is very fit but may lack the class needed and draw is a killer. Was caught a little wide last start in easier race over 2100m and plodded home. Not keen.

Ran 4th to Casino Seventeen when resuming then 2nd up syndrome, always back in the ruck and didn’t run on when beaten 3 lengths by Port Lockroy in Gr 1 Railway. Should strip a great deal fitter for this and gets the perfect run. May surprise a few.

Looked smart rushing late to win the Kalgoorlie Cup over 1760m in September but has been smashed twice since stepping up to this level. Not keen.

Her run when 3rd in the Gr 1 Railway over a mile was eye-catching as she bobbed and weaved and made up many, many lengths late. The first two home aren’t in this race yet many of the others are. She’s yet to win this trip but races as if it will suit. Is fit, strong and in form. Huge threat off this good draw. She probably sits in about 6th to the bend and that’s close enough to finish over the top of these.

Disappointed in the Gr 1 Railway last start as she was there to win the race on the home turn but ran on like she needed further finishing 10th. She gets further here and is now 3rd up. I suspect there will be a massive improvement. Is a Gr 1 winner and must be in your numbers.

Three-year-old filly with enormous upside. After easily winning the Gr 3 Champion Fillies over a mile she stepped out against all 3YO comers in the Gr 2 WA Guineas same trip and ran time that is comparable to the best of these. Today she drops 5.5kg which suggests she can run even faster. If she does an she gets out in time, that can win this race.

Was beaten in a lowly BM 72 last start. Not keen.

Talented 3-year-old filly who gets home hard. Has trailed Storyville home at past 2 runs, beaten 2.8 lengths and 1.22 lengths. Is a sneaky place chance but can’t see her beating Storyville home in this.
