- (1600M)

1. Think About It (15)
Needed to draw inside to give this a shake so this outside gate is a huge problem. He will have to go hard early and it is his last 100m that is the concern. Won The Everest in exceptional time last prep over 1200m here. Two runs this time up have been good but he did weaken in the 1500m Gr 1 George Ryder last after hitting the lead with 300m to go. Meets Lady Laguna who beat him home as his past two runs, 4kg worse off so looks to be tested here.

2. Obamburumai (8)
Superstar from Japan whose last visit to Australia resulted in a brilliant last stride win over rivals again here pericles and golden mile in the $10million Golden eagle over 1500m when rsuming. This is a massive ask first up this time with this weight here. reports are he is flying so he must be considered.

3. Pericles (16)
Drawn awkwardly and will have to go back to slot in. Isn’t well served at the weights here either although meets Obamburamai 1.5kg better for a narrow loss in the Golden Eagle. Finished well when 7th last start to Veight in the Gr 1 George Ryder. Place show.

4. Militarize (4)
Is in tremendous form and is extremely fit. Also, Zac Purton rides and he has drawn perfectly. Should get the run of the race in about 6th all the way before finding a gap. Does meet Lady laguna 4kg worse off following a loss to her last start in the Gr 1 George Ryder. that’s a concern. But, he is pretty smart and is ready now.

6. Golden Mile (1)
7. Kovalica (12)
Is 3rd up here and on his day he is very smart but lately he just isn’t racing with the requisite tenacity for a race like this. When the heavy rain came last night he did get backed at big odds.

8. Detonator Jack (2)
Drops 5.5kg on his really game first-up 3rd to Democracy Manifest in the fast-run Gr 2 Ajax over 1500m. Has drawn perfectly here and looks to sit within striking distance from the get-go. His 2nd up form is great and he is at his best when the track is damp. Will get that in this and he has been sensationally backed overnight because of the heavy rain.

9. Berkshire Shadow (13)
Interesting galloper. Has placed at Gr 1 level in England this trip and is now with Ciaron maher. His only Aussie start, however, wasn’t flattering when he plodded to the line in 5th behind Von hauke over 1400m in the gr 3 Shaftesbury at Flemington. probably has improved and has never raced with such a light weight. if there is money for him, have a place bet.

Ready to Fire
10. Rustic Steel (7)
Loves the sting out of the ground and is 3rd up here so looks in perfect condition. Draw is favourable too. was doing best work late with 59kg last week when running home fast into 6th behind boom horse another will in the prelude to this. was beaten 4.5 lengths but meets the winner 4kg better. sneak place hope.

11. Attractable (5)
Won’t know jimself with this weight. looks to be the leader or at least right there all the way. Can run a very fast 1400m with more weight than this and has run a mile in 1.34 here with bigger weight. last start was horrible though in Melbourne behind the flying pride of jenni. i can’t see him winning but he looks to make it a true test.

12. Lady Laguna (10)
Has been up a very long time and is super fit. biggest asset has been her ability to settle and run out a very strong 1500m. now, here’s where it gets interesting. she has never won past 1300m but did carry 57kg when just beaten over 1500m in gr 1 George ryder last start. that run wins this as she ran very fast time. but, this extra last 100m is going to be very interesting. big show.

13. Democracy Manifest (11)
Looks very hard to beat with this weight. Sat back under 56kg in the run over 1500m before absolutely sprouting wings late to win the Gr 2 ajax on a damp track in fast time. did run an unlucky 5th in the gr1 epsom this trip last spring. is very fit and extremely resilient. will run this right out and he needs to be respected.

Ready to Fire
14. Phearson (24)
Will have to charge out of the gates and use up a lot of gas to cross them. Probably leads or sits up on the outside of attractable. his presence will make it a solidly run doncaster but he should wilt out of it late. does like it wet though.

15. Loch Eagle (23)
Loves it damp under foot and is capable of bing right in this with this weight when on song. but he hasn’t looked himself in 2 runs this time up. not keen.

16. Lindermann (22)
Has come up this campaign in stunning form and this looks at his mercy. Will have to go hard early but can afford to with this weight. If he leads or sits one off on the speed he does look simply too well-weighted. last start in a good form race, he won over 2000m at Gr 3 level in fast time under 58kg. no weight here, can run very fast sectionals and if it’s wet he improves even more. looks the winner to me.

17. Semana (17)
Is just so honest and tough. meets zougotcha 2kg better for her head loss to her in the Gr 1 Coolmore over 1500m last start in solid time. stuck on well. never won beyond 1400m but has no weight here. where she sits in the run is the question though.

18. Another Wil (21)
is the absolute talk of the town following a series of runaway wins, latest was last week in the 1500m prelude under 53kg where he simply bolted away. this is harder. jamie kah rides him, and she has publically called him a freak. she has ridden him 4 times and he has won by huge margins every time. up to gr 1 level for the first time now and has drawn right off the track. but to counter that he has no weight. if he finds a spot with cover, his stats say he must be in this finish.

Proven Winner
19. Celestial Legend (6)
Has raced on 7 occasions and proven to be a star in the making from his 3 wins, plus, he is trained here. that’s a massive help. should get the run of the race from this gate and is bred to run this right out. now, the maths. his last start was a Gr 1 win here over this trip in 1:33 under 56.5kg. he sat 3-wide all the way that day too. that time would win this but when you consider he will carry 7kg less and this time will get cover and the run of the race – he wins.
-
Proven Winner
20. Southport Tycoon (20)
Repeat the above. Has raced 7 times and has proven to be a star in the making. Is tough and extremely honest, with last start’s Gr 1 win over this trip in Melbourne a really good effort as he carried 57kg and ran down last week’s Gr 1 George Ryder winner Veight. Not served well at the barriers so may be 3-wide all the way. Is pretty good though.

21. Nugget (9)
Tough miler who comes into this 3rd up with form around a good few of these. The drop in weight is a massive help and if he gets a run he has drawn to be in this finish at huge odds.

22. Hinged (14)
Tough, talented Gr 1 winning mare but she just went a little too hard last week when a fading 5th in a weaker race. this should test.

23. Navajo Peak (18)
Probably doesn’t get a run but even if he does the draw and his recent poor form mean he doesn’t look a hope.

24. Palmetto (3)
very handy Gr 2 galloper who is trained here and is 3rd up. drawn beautifully too but probably doesn’t gain a run. if he does he will be battling away but not all that keen.
