1. Mr Brightside (9)
Has won $19 million in stakes. Has won 20 races and has placed in a further 16 races. And I reckon last start when run down by Ceolwulf when 2nd in the Gr 1 King Charles at Randwick was one of his best efforts. Was on speed and kept bobbing. Has won 5 races here and should be the one carting the field up to Pride Of Jenni. Big chance as always.

2. Ceolwulf (7)
Has won $9million in stakes. Has won 6 races and run 7 further placings, and last start ran home brilliantly from back in the pack to run down Mr Bightside in the Gr 1 King Charles. That form suggests he will be dashing late and hard here too. Loves this trip and should love this track, although has never raced here.

3. Pericles (4)
Is going to get the run of the race from this gate. Has won $6million in stakes from 7 wins and 11 placings. And last start made his run about 30m too soon in the King Charles at Randwick. As a result was pratted wide and still kept coming to grab 4th to Ceolwulf who burst up on the inside not covering as much ground. Super fit now and will love Flemington. Chance.

4. Lake Forest (6)
Subject of a worldwide debate as to the merit of his run and the ride last start in the Gr 1 King Charles. I backed him, and I can’t blame the ride for his poor effort. Just didn’t look good enough, and that should be proven here, too.

5. Steparty (10)
Has raced 4 times at this trip and yet tyo win. Is considered a good Gr 2 type and this will test him late.

6. Von Hauke (5)
Last start win this trip against a weaker field was very impressive at The Valley. Time was slow, though, and that’s a concern as this will be a fast run race. Has started 6 times over a mile in easier races and won just the once so not keen.

7. Pride Of Jenni (2)
Aghhh, what a horse, and bless her cotton sox last start as I was on her. Has won $11.4 million from 12 wins and 12 placings and is back in form. Back in 2023, she led all the way to easily win the Gr 1 Empire Rose in 1.34. A week later, she led all the way to win this race in 1.34 from Mr Brightside. Last year she led and weakened to near last in this race. This year, she led all the way to win the Gr 1 Empire Rose again in 1.34. Soooo, a week on can she back up a la 2023 and lead this race all the way? On her win last Saturday the answer is an emphatic yes. BUT, she needs to be left alone in front and Mr Bightside has been, of late, going up and sitting at her girth early which has been upsetting her. She needs to break away from him mid-race. Intriguing contest.

8. Stefi Magnetica (1)
Has won $7million form 5 wins and 8 placings and is ready to fire up here. Already is a Gr 1 winning miler when she finished hard to claim the $4m Doncaster earlier this year. Has had 2 starts this time up and last start ran good time to win the $2m Invitation at Randwick over 1400m. Very consistent mare who will love this long straight and can perform on good or slow surfaces. Is in this with a great chance and won a Gr 1 when 3rd up last prep. Be wary of her.

9. Treasurethe Moment (3)
Young superstar mare who has won $3.7million from 10 wins and 5 placings. Has raced 15 times so you see her consistency. Went a little too soon in the Gr 1 Cox plate last start, hitting the front as they straightened and yielding late to Via Sistina and Buckaroo. Is so honest and so talented that you must have her in your numbers. Has raced at this track 3 times for 3, and each time here she was ridden by Damian Lane who rides her here. The last win here was earlier this year in the Gr 2 Kewney over this trip in 1.34. Since that win has won 3 x Gr 1 races, latest one over 1400m beating Mr Brightside. Has to be hard to beat.

10. Leica Lucy (8)
Is ready. On the quick back up from last weekend, when she got too far back and gave Pride Of Jenni too much headstart in the Gr 1 Empire Rose this trip. Rattled home and was cutting into the margin, finishing 2nd to her. Did get beaten 4.5 lengths. Different tempo here and she is fitter now. Represents a great threat.
