1. Rivellino (3)
Three starts this prep and he has run on fairly well from the back in all of them without threatening. He gets his last chance here in his Grand Final. On his day, he can run with the best of them, and perhaps with Willow on board this time, we will see the best of him. Will get a cushy run just behind the speed from this perfect draw.

2. Wodeton (10)
Has done a great job against the best of his cohort in races that are too short for him. For instance, was runner up in the Gr 1 Golden Slipper over 1200m, and last start ran on well in that record romp by Beiwacht in the Gr 1 Golden Rose over 1400m. Was 4 lengths behind a 1.20.79 astonishing time so looms large here.

3. Vinrock (14)
Draw is a concern. Probably drives forward to find a spot. Ran good time to be on speed and win 1400m Exford Plate from West Of Swindon, then got back to near last, tried to weave between runners in straight and only plodded late over a mile when beaten 3 lengths by West Of Swindon in the Gr. 2. Is MUCH better than that and if he does get across without spending too much gas, he is a major player.

4. Nepotism (12)
Gr 1 winner who hasn’t fired a shot in 2 starts this time up. Got back to near last and barely improved in that ultra fast 1400m sprint behind Beiwacht last start over 1400m. Grows a leg if the track is wet. Gr 1 win was this trip so should be considered.

5. West Of Swindon (16)
Is the in-form runner at the moment and has dealt with his rivals very well of late. Primed for this and although draw means he may have to go hard early looking to get in, if he does, his class and honesty will take him a long way towards winning. Led all way to win this trip at Gr 2 level last start.

6. Vega For Luck (7)
Handy colt but may be a length or so behind the best of them here. On pace when run down for 3rd at Gr 3 level over 1400m in average time last start here behind Estremo. Not overly keen.

7. Highvol (18)
Where does he get to from this gate? Hmmm, probably goes back. Has been racing like he’s getting ready for a crack at the Derby. Will be running on, but isn’t a major player.

8. Navy Pilot (2)
Up in grade here following a gutsy 1400m win in useful time at 3Yo handicap level. Is fitter now and will get the run of the race. Might be a bit better thasn we all think and as such no surprise to see him right in this finish.

9. Autumn Boy (1)
Sydney colt with talent. Fair to describe him, however, as a former stakes winning boom horse who was poor when thrashed in that very fast Gr 1 Golden Rose over 1400m last start. Got back and didn’t make an inch in the straight. Tempo is easier here and bred to run the trip, so give another chance.

10. Space Rider (11)
Won 3Yo race over 1200m in slow time when resuming then failed badly past two runs in stakes grade. Can run on, but this looks too hard.

Not fired a shot in two starts since changing stables and this will test.

12. Hillier (17)
Probably gets caught in no man’s land from this gate. Which is a shame because he’s honest and is a sneaky place chance if he gets a run with cover. Ran 3rd to West Of Swindon last start over a mile in Gr 2.

13. Stay Cosmic (15)
Has ability. Did disappoint in the slowly run Guineas Prelude over 1400m won by Estremo when well backed. That was 2nd up, so may be worth another chance. Can place at big odds.

14. Planet Red (5)
Up and coming type who has the draw to continue his rise. Was only beaten a length by Estremo when making ground late in the Guineas Prelude over 1400m. Problem is that was a slowly run race and he was afforded a sweet run throughout the race. Is on the improve though. Place show.

15. Romantic Encounter (13)
Has only raced twice but last start he was on speed throughout in his first stakes race. Finished 2nd to West Of Swindon with Vinrock behind him. They didn’t go hard early and those on pace were flattered but to do that at just his 2nd start suggests he is immensely talented. Could surprise these.

16. Observer (9)
Interesting runner. Lightly raced but shows talent in weaker grade. Did make impressive ground late in BM 60 over 1300m when resuming and 2nd with 58kg. Is up in class, though, and may find it tough late.

17. Centu Cavaddi (Em1) (6)
Drawn well if he gets a run and has talent. Raced just twice, though in weaker grade, and was beaten half a length by Navy Pilot last over 1400m when carrying 3kg less. May be a prep too soon.

18. Regal Award (Em2) (8)
Won Sandown MDN 2 starts back in good style, but led that day and controlled speed. Won’t get that luxury here and was unplaced and disappointing behind Navy Pilot carrying 5kg less last start. Not keen.
