- Flemington - Race 8
- (1600m)
- March 1, 2025
1. Goldrush Guru (5)
Is ready to fire now that he is 3rd up. On speed and a great 4th last start in the Gr 3 Hayes over 1400m. Was a Gr 1 winner of the VRC Derby last campaign. Should be on pace from this gate throughout. Big threat.

2. Savaglee (6)
Kiwi superstar who is a Gr 1 winner this trip in fast time and is in brilliant form. NZ 3YOs who cross the pond always run well and this bloke has drawn nicely. Looks perfectly placed and I suspect he runs a very bold race.

3. Feroce (11)
Is 2nd up here after a great 3rd when resuming. Was placed in the tougher Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas last October. Is extremely honest, sits up on the pace and will be in the fray here.

Ready to Fire
4. Angel Capital (8)
Super colt who gets back early then runs home very hard. Has won 3 of past 4 starts, latest when resuming over 1400m last start in the Gr 2 Autumn Stakes beating Plymouth. Finished hard when 6th in Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas, which was only loss in past 4 runs. Respect.

Proven Winner
5. Henlein (17)
Looks to be a stayer in the making. Was Gr 1 placed last prep at Randwick. Only start this time in was well beaten when 9th to Sepals in CS Hayes over 1400m. Was well supported that day and Mark Zahra rides here which suggests he will improve sharply. Watch betting moves.

6. Red Aces (2)
Talented stayer in the making. Won a Gr 2 over 2040m last prep then was a good 6th in Gr 1 VRC Derby. Thrashed in Sepals race when resuming and this may be too short also.

7. Point And Shoot (1)
Interesting Sydney runner. Has not raced here and has the rails draw so probably gets cluttered up behind the speed. And, he has no form against Black Type horses. But, he has brilliantly won his past 2 starts at Randwick in BM grade. Is in a purple patch of form and finishes like a rocket. Respect.

8. Stay Focused (7)
The distance here is his biggest hurdle. Has not raced this trip and did get tired in Sepals’ 1400m race last start when 5th after leading. Not keen.

9. Opening Address (14)
Badly drawn but has a ton of ability. Probably spears across from this gate to be outside lead. Well beaten when resuming in Sepals’ Gr 3 race but last prep did win stakes race here over 1800m. Keep safe.

10. Ndola (12)
Caught the eye with slashing effort at big odds when coming from 13th as they swung for home and running 2nd to Sepals. On that run, he can win this but he’s never raced at this trip. Should be fit enough as he’s 3rd up.

11. Royal Insignia (15)
Has talent and has won 3 of past 4, latest when well beaten 7th to Sepals his only conviction this year. Draw here is a big worry as he gets back and probably sits 3-deep. Not certain the trip will suit either.

12. Sepals (3)
Is the rising star of Victorian racing and deserves his shot at Gr 1 level following an easy runaway win in the Gr 3 CS Hayes over 1400m beating many of these. Is getting better with every run. Gives the impression this trip will suit and should be box-seating in 4th as they swing. Looks the testing material.

13. Savour The Dream (13)
Queensland star who has an unbeaten record over this trip winning 2 from 2 both in good style under 60kg. This is his first start down here, is also his first go at Black Type so is unknown at that level. But, he can run so have in your numbers.

14. Detroit City (10)
Very handy but only start at this trip was in the Gr 2 Stutt Stakes last year when 4th, with Henlein his rival here finishing ahead of him. Was a tiring 4th to Angel Capital when resuming last start in the 1400m Gr 2. Probably goes forward from this alley but last 100m will test.

Good on Soft
15. Plymouth (4)
Resumed from spell and taken straight to the front from the start, a role he’d never been in before, yet kept finding running a great 2nd to Angel Capital in Gr 2 Autumn Stakes. Can he reproduce that at 2nd start from a spell in stronger, longer race? That’s the question. Drawn well. Place show.

17. Statuario (18)
Horrible draw so probably drops back early. Is 2nd up here after a handy 5th to Angel Capital in the Autumn Stakes when making ground late. Unlike many of these he has won at a mile. But this looks too hard.

18. Nostringsattached (9)
Talented and is in brilliant form winning past 3 albeit in weaker grade. Blake Shinn rode him in all 3 of those wins and he is on Sepals here. That may tell us something.
