1. Ceolwulf (2)
Looks primed and ready. Was doing his best work at the end of the Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes when a closing 5th, but a well-held 5th to Royal Patronage over 1300m. The tempo of this race will suit him more and is a two-time Gr 1 winner over 1600m. Likely to finish very hard and has claims.

Ready to Fire
2. Tom Kitten (11)
Seems back better than ever and is the one they all have to worry about over the final 200m. Finished hard to claim the Gr 1 All-Star mile from Mr Brightside when given a stunning ride. And, he will strip even fitter here. Has twice won at this track and will finish like a rocket late. Very hard to beat.

3. Royal Patronage (3)
Ran stunning time when resuming to win the 1300m Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes beating a good few of these. Looks in terrific order and will be on the speed out of trouble from the start. His racing pattern means he will be able to be well clear of his rivals into the straight and he does appear to be back better than ever. Very hard to beat.

4. Buckaroo (1)
Tremendous stayer, unluckily beaten into 2nd in the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup and was 9th when in a winning spot at the 200m in the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup, who is resuming here. Can sprint well too but may get run over here early. Is good first-up, but place at best.

5. Gringotts (4)
Quality galloper who is 2nd up here after a colossal run when narrowly beaten into 3rd under 61kg in the 1300m Liverpool City Cup at Gr 3 level. This is a rise in class and trip but he has run fast time for a mile under 60kg before. Strips fitter now, will sit in 2nd spot behind Royal Patronage to the bend and is going to be in the finish.

Ready to Fire
6. Militarize (10)
Resumed from a long spell after failing at stud and was found wanting over the final 150m when fading 10th behind Royal Patronage in a fast run Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes. This trip suits more but I’d like to see him with another start under his belt.

Good on Soft
7. Celestial Legend (6)
Sat wide when resuming and did not produce late when beaten 5 lengths by Royal Patronage in the Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes last start. Hughie to ride here and the trip suits a lot more. Has won twice while 2nd up and has won twice here. Significantly, the track will be a little soft and he appreciates that a lot more. May surprise at very big odds.

8. Kovalica (8)
Has not won for a good while and resuming in a strong Gr 1 here will mean he isn’t going to improve on that record. Mind you, he has beaten Royal Patronage in the past over 1900m, but does look held this time.

9. Port Lockroy (7)
Is a Gr 1 winner at this trip but is resuming here and this is a hot field. Not likely.

10. Fangirl (9)
The enigmatic superstar. Ran away from the superstar Via Sistina when resuming over 1400m, then last start finished hard from well back to just be beaten by Via over a mile in the Gr 1 Verry Elleegant run at a very fast clip. That means she is super fit and is keen to get on with it. Is trained here too which helps a great deal and was runner-up to Anamoe in this race 2 years ago.

11. Stefi Magnetica (5)
Top mare who is already a Gr 1 winner but she was run off her feet before taking off three-wide last 800m when resuming last start and 8th in the Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes over 1300m. Didn’t really get a chance to get into the race as it was helter-skelter all the way and understandably weakened in the last 150m. Fitter now and can produce a very solid late run. Place show.
