Best Bets – Saturday 13th June

CLEVOR TREVER has taken all before him of late, and no reason why he won’t bring up four wins on the trot. He can come from behind, as shown last start at Caulfield, and he also races well on speed. Whatever the conditions, he should be able to adapt to them and prove the one they have to beat. 

SIMURGH has been very impressive in his past two wins at Caulfield over 2000m. He looks as though he will relish the rise in trip today and the wet track won’t pose any trouble for him. Ben Allen jumps back aboard and he looks one of the better bets on the card.

WESTERN EMPIRE is shooting for a hat-trick of wins in this year’s edition of the Strickland Stakes at Belmont. He just got up last time out to beat Hoba West after getting the bob in at the wire. He is racing as though the 2000m should not bother him, he only needs to relax in the run and his quality should get him over the line.

Having something each-way on MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO at Eagle Farm. Last start she was well-backed in the market and was caught wide throughout. She prefers some cover during the run. Now that she is third-up and has a solid soft track record, she should be ready to get back into the winner’s stall again. 

HEADLEY GRANGE looks to repeat his Group 1 Kingsford-Smith win by backing up in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap this week. He was well tried and just got the money in the Kingsford-Smith, and he is dropping in weight from that run too. He has rock solid wet track form and if those conditions prevail, he will be very difficult to hold off for another Group 1 victory.
