Grade 5
GREVILLEA (1) should prove extremely hard to hold out in the second race at Q2. Although he has never seen the red box from his 16 starts, he has won from the stripe and he usually jumps well enough to be able to hold a position early. If that is the case, he will be running over them at the business end of the race. The danger could come from the pink in SAGAI MISS (8) who does like clear air with a wide draw and is sure to run out the journey.
Mixed 6/7 Final
Liked the run of MEPUNGA SAGE (2) in the heats of this event last week. She has run 29.44 previously and only jumped fairly last time but she chased well and was making good ground over the concluding stages to finish third, going down by under 2 lengths in a race won by ASTON BUGSY (3) who led all the way in 29.82. Again, that pup will likely find the lead and take some catching but if our selection can find his tail down the back straight, she should prove too quick for him in the run home.
Open
APILLA (4) is probably the best stayer in South Australia at present and has come back from interstate in scintillating form. Last week she jumped second and simply proved far too strong for her opposition running a solid 43.05 for the trip. In that race she defeated ISABELLA’S BLITZ (5) who led her from the start but at her first run over distance she couldn’t hold off Apilla when she came closing. She will improve from that run but Apilla should still be too classy.
