FRED ROSE (7) has placed at his last four runs and is likely to get back in the run. He will power to the line, but as always he will need some luck. They look the clear top 2 in a good race.
Sandown Park R5 - Melbourne Cup Prelude 14
NSW chaser ROCKET RIOT (2) has been airborne in recent weeks, recording a hat trick of wins. He is drawn to find the front on his Victorian debut and will be hard to catch. MORTON (6) has won seven from ten and has a good record at Sandown Park. He will jump as favourite and be chasing strongly late.
Sandown Park R9 - G3 Shootout
BIG ENERGY (1) has been racing well against the best chasers in the land and will appreciate the small field and the gun box draw. He is the fastest dog in the race and can win the Group 3 Shootout. ALPHA ZULU (3) continues to improve and was a Group 2 winner at Sandown Park two runs back. He has an outstanding record but may struggle to find the rails tonight which will prove the difference between winning and losing. The pair can battle out the finish.
