Who can challenge Redzel? Palmerbet Racing Team are going to help you find out! Read on to see our runner by runner preview of this weight-for-age sprint classic, including our first four tips.
T: Team Snowden / J: Kerrin McEvoy
Champion sprinter who looks ideally placed. How will they beat him? He’s trained here, he is the best sprinter alive, he loves this track, he’s 3rd up and he is drawn to lead all the way. Looks the best placed runner all day.
T: Kris Lees / J: Glyn Schofield
Has not won a race for a long time but is always right there. Is a two-time Gr 1 winner and is more than capable on his day. Only beaten 4 lengths when resuming over 1100m behind In Her Time last start as top weight. Better placed under this weight scale and can place.
T: Darren Weir / J: Craig Williams
Super sprinter who won at Gr 1 level, then went down a nose in the Gr 1 Newmarket at Flemington when on the slow part of the track. Ran 3rd in The Everest to Redzel when last here. Is a world class sprinter and he will sit mid field from this alley and should be closing hard final stages.
T: Mick Bell/ J: Kevin Forrester
Ran a super race first up in similar grade but gave in very meekly last start. Needs to lift.
T: Gary Moore/ J: Blake Shinn
Seems to have lost his way at this level. Two starts this time in have only been average. Not likely.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Mark Zahra
Is very fast early and has come up very well this time in. Caught in the shadows of the post at Gr 1 level last start this trip. Can lead and place.
T: Matty Dale/ J: Jay Ford
Repeat everything we just said about Takedown. He’s just not racing well enough.
T: Ben Smith / J: Corey Brown
Outstanding mare who showed she was as good as any horse in the country last campaign. But then she spelled. Her trials and her win first up have been outstanding and she looks back better than ever. Last year on Gr 1 The Everest day, she ran faster time than Redzel did in their respective races. Is close to Redzel in the weights but she is up to it and will stretch him.
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/ J: Sam Clipperton
Former Champion 2YO, dual Gr 1 winner, and importantly is a Gr 1 winner on this track. Super older mare too who has placed in this race past two years. And her dashing 2nd last start this grade was suggestive of a brilliant run again this year. Will run home hard.
10. GLOBAL GLAMOUR (10) 02x19x6422
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/ J: Tim Clark
Very fast mare who is racing in great heart. Dashed to lead past two in top grade and was run down on the line both times. Home track here and rates a place show.
T: Robbie Laing / J: Damien Oliver
Is an outstanding sprinter and is the type of horse suited to this race. Will get back and run on very gamely. Did that when resuming and 2nd this grade, but was a little disappointing 2nd up in the Gr 1 Newmarket. Expect her to improve.
12. TRAPEZE ARTIST (9) 3x6410x143
T: Gerald Ryan/ J: Tye Angland
Exciting sprinting 3YO. Won brilliantly first up then taken out of his comfort zone in slightly longer races and his bravery kept him in those Gr 1 races. Has been freshened and if there is any rain about he comes right into this.
T: Team Hawkes/ J: Brenton Avdulla
Good strong, reliable, powerful racehorse. He has been racing well in this grade both here and in Victoria. This is really strong but he will be up on pace all way and can box on for place.
14. THE MISSION (5) 1x70600x85
T: Paul Perry / J: Zac Purton
Will find this grade tough but has won at Gr 1 level here last year and that run last start in similar field was outstanding trial for this. Weight rise will hold him back though.
