Palmerbet Racing Team is saddling up for Day One of The Championships, and here’s the big Group 1 2yo race the Inglis Sires’. Here’s our runner by runner preview – keep reading to see our tips!

1. ENCRYPTION (13)  32×251

T: James Cummings / J: Glyn Schofield

Super impressive run to claim victory in the Group 3 Black Opal last start over 1200m. The win was strong, the effort suggesting the 1400m here is perfect for him. Looks to continue his winning form. Danger.

2. LONG LEAF (2) 11×106

T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Kerrin McEvoy

This might be a pretty handy colt going forward. He made a run wide in the Gr 1 Golden Slipper, and stayed out deep, yet still kept coming late to wind up 6th. Has a touch of class and the trip looks ideal.

3. NOT A SINGLE CENT (15) 51

T: Ciaron Maher / J: Blake Shinn

Must be pretty smart as he came home hard to win the VRC Sires’ Produce over this trip at just 2nd start in a race. Sure to be fitter now. It would be a great story for the telling if he won with his new trainer Ciaron Maher just getting his licence back.

4. SPIN (7)  42×233

T: Team Snowden/ J: Tim Clark

Ran a super race to just miss in the Gr 2 Skyline Stakes and then plugged home gamely without threatening in similar grade. Jury is out on the question of: is he genuine final 100m of a race, but he certainly has the talent to win this. Is yet to win a race, however, from 5 starts.

5.  BONDI (14)  2×3631

T: Team Snowden/ J: Mark Zahra

Smart colt who chased Encryption home in the Black Opal, but it must be said, he never looked like beating that horse. To his credit, he came out and won in maiden grade when a $1.50 favourite next start, but jury is out on him too re his actual ability. May be a length or so behind a few of these.

6. SEBERATE (3) 4142

T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Jason Collett

This is an interesting galloper. And one who seems to be improving every run. Sat back about 12 lengths off lead in Blue Diamond Prelude and charged home for close 4th, then a major over correction occurred in the Gr 2 VRC Sires’ when he was up on the speed in 2nd all the way. If he settles mid pack here with cover, along the rails, he looks one of the main players.

7. TCHAIKOVSKY (5)  531

T: Team Snowden/ J: Sam Clipperton

There is a sense of destiny about this impeccably bred colt. His name, his racing ability, his pedigree all suggest this race could be his perfect storm. Has already placed at Gr 2 level and his maiden win last start was dominant. He’d be worth $15 million if he were to win this. And he should go close.

8. OUTRAGEOUS  (10) 7×210

T: Team Hawkes / J: Brenton Avdulla

Has talent and is a winner but this grade at this stage looks a bit above him. Was near rear all way in recent VRC Sires’ Produce.

9. RAGGED RASCAL (6) 212×698

T: Paul Perry/ J: Josh Parr

Will be a $101 chance but we suggest if you are having exotics, put him in your numbers. Finished 8th in the Gr 3 Baillieu over 1400m last start with Spin and Ringerdingding finishing about a length in front of him. Thing is though, he couldn’t get a run and should have nearly won the entire race.

10. RINGERDINGDING (9) 186

T: Ed O’Rourke/ J: Ben Melham

After winning maiden in town easily, was sent to stakes level and has failed but to be fair, has drawn very badly both times. This trip suits and is trained here so may sneak a place.

11. ADANA (4) 22

T: Chris Waller/ J: Michael Walker

Still a maiden and probably will be after this too. Made ground in easier race for 2nd over 1100m. Look for him next prep.

12. AFFOGATO (11)  658

T: Wendy Roche/ J: Craig Newitt

Yet to run a place in 3 maiden runs and should finish last in this.

13.   OOHOOD (8)  2×3232

T: Tony McEvoy/ J: Zac Purton

Here’s another galloper who is yet to win a race, but the difference here is she has earned $806,100 in prize money from 5 starts. Chased home hard on worst part of the track when closing 2nd in the Gr 1 Golden Slipper behind Estijaab last start. That followed a hard finishing 3rd in the Gr 1 Blue Diamond over 1200m. Clearly is extra smart, but concern is backing up from the Slipper.

14.  SEABROOK (1) 4×315

T: Mick Price / J: Damien Oliver

Is very smart and is a Gr 2 winner. Sat wide all way yet finished off gamely when 5th to Estijaab in the Gr 1 Golden Slipper. On that she’s a big threat, but be cautious. She’s raced Oohood twice and not beaten her home yet.

15.  EL DORADO DREAMING (12)  342

T: Ben Smith/ J: Damian Lane

Maiden galloper but one with talent….just may find it tough this grade at this stage of her career. Will get back and be making some ground late.

Tip: 1. ENCRYPTION, 2. Seberate, 3. Oohood, 4. Tchaikovsky
