The 2024-25 Premier League season kicks on into Matchday 31, and we’re here with five top-shelf EPL tips for the weekend ahead.
Everton vs. Arsenal
David Moyes has turned things around for Everton to be out of the relegation battle and on their way up the EPL ladder.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has stalled with Arsenal. Their aspirations to win the league have all but been extinguished. Their spot in the Top 4 is secure, but there isn’t a lot for them to play for while Liverpool continue to win and extend their lead at the top.
Everton is a hard-working side. What they lack in quality, they make up for in effort, which has been enough for them to earn 13 draws throughout the season. They’ll put up a tough fight at Goodison Park and will be confident in knowing Arsenal’s recent form on Merseyside. They’ve won only three of the last 26 away matches against Everton and Liverpool.
They’ve displayed positive form away from home overall this season for seven wins and just two losses. Arteta’s side, while frustrating, does have a +29 goal difference, which highlights the difference in class between Liverpool, themselves and the rest. Bakayo Saka’s return only increases that gap.
However, how Everton are playing right now, and how they’ve played at home this season inspires confidence of Moyes leaving with at least a point.

They’re still out here doubting Nottingham Forest…
While there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge, Forest is 3rd on the EPL table and looked destined for a place in the Champions League.
They’ve come this far by embracing their counter-attacking style, which relies on them scoring first. They’ve scored first in 23 of their 30 matches this season—four more than any other team in the league. But it’s a style that has worked to be the only team to defeat Liverpool this season and continues to work to win their last five games in all competitions.

Villa are in fine form themselves. They’ve won six on the bounce and just thrashed Brighton 3-0 mid-week. Unai Emry has his side only two points out of a Champions League spot. They’ve proven to be particularly dangerous at home, going unbeaten in their last 15.
This is a good spot for Forest, though. Their counter-attacking and fast-break style profiles well against this Villa side. Aston Villa has conceded seven fast-break goals this season – joint for the most in the EPL.

There were some positive signs for United mid-week.
“We reached the final third a lot of times but we need to be better in that final third because it is really important to score goals, and we have a lack of goals.” – Ruben Amorim
Amorim’s side managed 23 shots at goal against Forest. It’s almost 20 years since they had as many shots on goal without scoring in an away game. They finished with 1.63 expected goals, but none of any real value. This week they’re against a Manchester City side that leads the EPL in possession at 60.7%.
While Pep Guardiola’s side have been disappointing relative to their usual expectations, they’re finding form the longer the season goes. They’re unbeaten in their last three and have picked up four wins in their last six games across all competitions. Omar Marmoush has been fantastic since his arrival and sped the team up.
Their dominance in possession should provide City with enough chances to score while United’s lack of finishing is a significant cause for concern given the limited opportunities they’re likely to generate.

Leicester City are going back to the championship. That much is known, and has been for a long time now. Even before they lost seven games in a row, at home, without scoring a single goal. They’ve won only one of their last 15 EPL matches and are $6 outsiders to make it two in 16.
Whatever bounce Ruud van Nistelrooy offered when taking over as manager is well and truly gone. This team is dire, and the end of the EPL season can’t come soon enough.
While Newcastle can be inconsistent, at their best, they’re an attacking powerhouse. Alexander Isak’s 20 goals this season is good for third in the EPL as he spearheads Newcastle’s run towards a spot in the Champions League.

Currently 5th on the table, Newcastle will know they can’t let an easy three points against a poor opposition slip past them.
They’ve already won the reverse fixture 4-0 this season. With Leicester’s struggles at home, there’s a good chance Newcastle repeat the dose in Matchday 31.

Crystal Palace were once part of the relegation conversation. They started the EPL season poorly but they’ve lost only four of their last 12 matches to climb the table and towards the top half. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion are on a similar path. They’ve won six of their last ten premier league matches and are looking to stay in the hunt for European football next season.
Equally as consistent as the recent form of these sides is their ability to score goals. Brighton, in particular, have made a habit of playing in high-scoring game – for better or worse. A whopping 70% of their games have finished with over 2.5 goals including each of their last seven.
Palace’s overall number for the season isn’t appealing, but not surprising given their start to the season. More recently, however, they’ve featured in games with 3+ goals in six of their last nine. More specifically at home, six of their last eight at Selhurst Park have featured plenty of goals.
Expect more of the same in this one as two exciting, and in-form teams, go head-to-head.
