Top Shelf Tips – EPL Matchday 28

The 2025-26 Premier League season kicks on into Matchday 28, and we’re here with five top-shelf EPL tips for the weekend ahead.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa

We don’t need to overthink this one at the price.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are last in the EPL and nailed on to be relegated. Unlike other teams towards the bottom who are improving as the season goes on, Wolves are a one-win team with a -33 goal difference. The numbers reflect their ability.

The gulf in class is backed up by Aston Villa’s 3rd spot on the table. Their unlikely title run is no longer a talking point, but several factors point towards a routine win in this one.

Chiefly, Villa should dominate possession and suffocate Wolves. On the rare occasions Wolves do fire in front of goal, they’re trying to get past Emi Martinez – arguably one of the best goalkeepers in world football right now.

Wolves rank dead last in the EPL in shot volume. They average only 6.5 shots per game, while Martiniez is saving 3.6 shots for every goal conceded right now.

Villa aren’t the most consistent attacking team in the EPL, but Wolves are consistently poor and are unlikely to find the net here.

Liverpool v West Ham

West Ham are in the relegation zone, but of the teams realistically fighting for safety, they’re performing the best. Unfortunately for the Hammers, they face an improving Liverpool at Anfield side this week.

The visitors are $6.75 outsiders for a reason – Liverpool should get the job done here relatively comfortably. However, the numbers suggest West Ham will apply pressure in front of goal.

They managed 20 shots last week – their most in an EPL match without scoring since 2022. Their 2.82 expected goals is the most of any side that has failed to score in the league this season, and stands out only more against Bournemouth’s 0.65 expected goals at the other end.

Form this season suggests Liverpool might have to chase the game. West Ham have scored 59% of their goals in the first half this season, the highest mark in the EPL. Liverpool, on the other hand, has scored the fewest first-half goals proportionally (31%).

West Ham to lead at the break at $5.50 screams value, but we’re backing the hosts to come through with at least a point in the end.

Leeds United v Manchester City

“They’ve spent much of the EPL season towards the top of the table, fighting to stay within touching distance of league leaders Arsenal. Now they’re starting to play as though they deserve to be there.” City Looking Slick

If Manchester City have clicked into gear, they should handle Leeds United with relative ease. The situation is simple for Pep Guardiola’s side from here: Win every game from here on out and win the EPL title.

They’re 2nd on the table, five points behind Arsenal, and while they’re within touching distance and applying pressure, City also can’t afford a slip-up of any sort.

City’s recent form against Leeds is promising heading into Matchday 28. They’ve won their last three meetings over Leeds and carry a five-game unbeaten run into this one.

Erling Haaland to score adds value to the result. He’s not in his best scoring form, but isn’t without opportunities. He’s still averaging 0.88 goals and 3.31 shots per game. If all goes as it should, and City continue to breathe down the Gunners’ neck, this profiles as a classic Haaland to score and City to win result.

Tottenham v Fulham

While Tottenham are a dumpster fire club at home and in a genuine relegation battle, one thing remains consistent: Goals.

The EPL is a goal-heavy league as it is averaging 2.76 goals per game, with 54% of games finishing with Over 2.5 goals. Tottenham, in particular, are at the top of the pile with 67% of their matches featuring 3+ goals.

Fulham aren’t far behind at 59% with eight of their 13 fixtures at Craven Cottage seeing three or more goals. When you factor in Tottenham’s wildly different away form, which has resulted in nine of their 13 matches going Over 2.5 goals, we expect to see the goal keepers reterieving the ball a few times in this one.

Both teams play out high scoring matches, and injuries to Tottenham’s back line only improve the likelihood. With Fulham just as capable of scoring three themselves at home, Over 2.5 goals is the play.

Arsenal v Chelsea

The pressure in Arsenal as $1.58 favourites to win this one. Even if Manchester City don’t get the result earlier on Matchday 28, any slip-up will prompt questions around the Gunners. Their recent history is too prominent to ignore, should the give City a sniff.

Chelsea are much-improved under Liam Rosenior and will back themselves in this London Derby despite their performance last week. However, nobody will be more confident than Eberechi Eze.

Each of his last 11 EPL goals have come in London. All six since his move to Arsenal have come in London derbies. Right now, he has the most goals scored by a player in a season without scoring outside of London. Now only one short of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s club-record seven derby goals in a season, Eze appeals as a $2.60 chance in this one.

Chelsea boasts the fourth-ranked defence in the EPL through 27 matches. They’re further improved and more pragmatic under Rosenior, too. However, Ezi’s form in these matches and playing at home, expect him to sneak one through.
