Five best bets for Matchweek 27

Looking ahead to Matchweek 27 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.

1. Man City (to win) & Under 3.5 goals vs Man United @ $2.30

Given Manchester City’s current form — which has seen them unbeaten in their last 18 games across all competitions — it’s difficult to see anything other than a derby win here for the Sky Blues. Coupled with the fact United, despite a positive recent run before a poor home loss to Fulham last weekend, continue to struggle as a cohesive defensive unit, and a seventh-straight Manchester Derby win is on the cards for Pep Guardiola’s men. A look at recent history shows that, in the last three of those wins, the total score did not exceed three goals, so doubling a City win and Under 3.5 goals in this one.

2. Arsenal -2.0 vs Sheffield United @ $2.25

The EPL’s best current attacking side travel to the league’s worst defensive outfit. Given the pulsating form of Arsenal and the struggles of relegation-bound Sheffield United, it’s like to be a case of not ‘if’ the Gunners will win, but by how much. And I’m backing them to get the job done by three or more goals. Mikel Arteta’s men have had a brilliant 2024 to date, winning six league games on the bounce and scoring 25 goals during that run (just three goals conceded).

3. Liverpool (to win) and Over 2.5 goals vs Nottingham Forest @ $1.95

With seven wins in their last eight EPL games, league leaders Liverpool remain the biggest challenger in the way of Man City’s quest for an unprecedented fourth straight title. And on the back of a Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea — with a side so young they’ve been dubbed ‘Klopp’s kids’ — the vibes are high on Merseyside. The Reds’ last seven EPL matches have featured four or more goals, so I’m backing them to get the job done away from home here, and the match finishing above 2.5 goals.

4. Fulham H2H vs Brighton @ $2.65

Fulham are good value as outsiders in this one. Considering they’re playing at home, and coming off a confidence-boosting late win at Old Trafford, Marco Silva’s men are well place for an upset. Furthering that case is the fact that Brighton are one of the league’s most inconsistent sides at present, underlined by a lack of penetration in the final third. On their day Roberto de Zerbi’s side remain dangerous, but the Cottagers will back themselves at home.

5. Ollie Watkins (AVL) anytime goalscorer vs Luton @ $1.88

With five goals in his last five EPL games, Ollie Watkins has been a big reason behind Villa’s resurgence in recent weeks. The big striker not only now has 19 goals across all competitions, but also has 10 assists, with his 29 goal involvements the most of all EPL players. Backing him to get on the scoresheet again, this time at Kenilworth Road.
