Five best bets for Matchweek 26

Looking ahead to Matchweek 26 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.

1. Arsenal -1.0 vs Newcastle @ $1.95

The Gunners are humming. Mikel Arteta’s men have begun a calendar year with five successive league victories for the first time in the club’s history. Not only that, they’ve scored 21 goals in this time, improving their goal difference by +19. Newcastle themselves have hit a positive patch after a mid-season rut, and are undefeated in their last five EPL games. But the fact remains that they’re leaking goals; eight in their last three, to be exact — all against clubs sitting in the bottom-half of the table. They’ll struggle to stop the rot in this one at The Emirates.

2. Rasmus Hojlund (MUN) first goalscorer vs Fulham @ $3.70

It took until Boxing Day for big-money summer signing Rasmus Hojlund to break his EPL goalscoring duck. Now, he’s (incredibly) scored in his last six games on the bounce, including a double last weekend against Luton. The Danish striker has clearly found his confidence, and his footing at the level, and has played a big part in Man United’s recent resurgence. Welcoming Fulham this weekend at Old Trafford, I’m backing Hojlund to get United underway.

3. Wolves -1.0 vs Sheffield United @ $2.30

Coming off the back of a brilliant away win at Spurs — a feat few have managed this EPL season — Wolves will be hugely confident of backing up with another three points in this one. Not only due to the up-tempo form they’re currently showing under Gary O’Neil, but the fact that a sad and sorry Sheffield United seemingly have one foot in the Championship already. After a 5-0 battering at the hands of Brighton, the Blades are now staring down the barrel of some unwanted records. With still a third of the season to play, they’ve already conceded at least five goals in five separate EPL fixtures this season. This has only occurred twice before the EPL era (Swindon Town 1993-94 and Derby County 2007-08). Backing Wolves to get up by two or more in this one.

4. Brighton H2H vs Everton @ $1.82

You never quite know what you’re doing to get with Brighton at the moment; 5-0 and 4-1 thumpings of Sheffield United and Crystal Palace respectively in recent weeks were interspersed with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Luton Town. But things have somewhat cooled, and Roberto Der Zerbi’s men are back to their flowing best going forward, having banged in 10 goals in their last three EPL games. Everton, by contrast, have hit a stalemate, and are now winless in their last eight league matches. Travelling to the south coast for this one, they’ll have their work cut out.

Bet Now Brighton vs Everton

5. Brentford H2H vs West Ham @ $2.65

Brentford have had an incredibly tough run of late. In their last five EPL games, they’ve played title favourites Man City twice, league leaders Liverpool and fifth-placed Tottemham. Now, travelling across London to an under-siege West Ham, the Bees have their chance to pounce. David Moyes’ men have been nothing short of awful in recent weeks, not only losing their last three games but, in the process, conceding 11 without scoring at all. It’s a low ebb for the club who had high hopes for this season, and fan discontent is rising.
