Five best bets for Matchweek 24

Looking ahead to Matchweek 24 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.

1. Nottingham Forest Over 1.5 goals vs Newcastle @ $2.62

Newcastle are leaking goals, underlined by conceding four to lowly Luton Town at St James’ Park last weekend — something entirely inconceivable 12 months ago when they boasted perhaps the league’s best defence. Eddie Howe’s men have now conceded 15 goals in their last five EPL games. Let’s not forget, too, that it was only on Boxing Day that Forest travelled to Newcastle and won 3-1 in a huge festive period boilover. Now, back on home turf, they represent good value to score two or more against a beleaguered backline.

2. Phil Foden (MCI) first goalscorer vs Everton @ $5.00

Coming off a brilliant hat-trick earlier this week to drag City from 1-0 down to 3-1 victors over Brentford, Foden represents good value to hit the back of the net first this weekend in a clash that the Sky Blues should comfortably control. Foden has now become a key part of manager Pep Guardiola’s plans for a record fourth straight EPL title. Another start on Saturday would make this the 23-year-old’s longest streak of consecutive Premier League starts.

Bet Now Man City vs Everton

3. Richarlison (TOT) anytime goalscorer vs Brighton @ $1.95

Richarlison can’t stop scoring. In fact, he’s hit the back of the net in seven of his last eight EPL matches, and in that stretched has scored nine goals. The Brazilian has relished leading the line in the absence of club skipper Son Heung-Min. And even if the South Korean star is available (after they were knocked out of the Asian Cup), one would assume Aussie manager Ange Postecoglou would stick with Richarlison in the starting XI.

Bet Now Tottenham vs Brighton

4. Crystal Palce +1.0 vs Chelsea @ $1.90

Chelsea’s one saving grace in recent months is that, despite their overall poor record, their home EPL form has been solid. That was blown out of the water last weekend with a 4-2 loss to Wolves at Stamford Bridge, in a performance that put enormous pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s position as manager. The Blues are now in 11th place with 10 defeats from 23 games, and have lost five of their last six EPL matches away from home. And while Palace aren’t pulling up trees themselves, they’ve won two of their last four, so are a solid chance to walk away with at least a point here.

Bet Now Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

5. Wolves H2H vs Brentford @ $2.05

At better than evens, Wolves, coming off a 4-2 thumping of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, represent good value in this one. Gary O’Neil’s side have lost just once in their last six EPL games (their only defeat was a last-gasp 4-3 loss against Man United) and are now inside the top half of the league table. Brentford by contrast are on the slide. The Bees have lost eight of their last 10 EPL games and, inconceivably, are now flirting with the EPL relegation zone. A huge chance for O’Neil and Wolves to solidify their strong recent form.
