Looking ahead to Matchweek 22 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for a midweek slice of Premier League action.
1. Liverpool -1.0 vs Chelsea @ $2.45
One of the biggest news stories of the season dropped last week when Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season. Currently top of the EPL table — five points clear of Manchester City — there’s a genuine question as to how his players will react. I’m guessing, given his significant popularity at the Merseyside club, it will elicit a great response. At Anfield, the Reds deservedly go in strong favourites in this one, and I’m backing then to win by two or more goals.

2. Wolves H2H vs Man United @ $2.65
After their first win away to rivals West Brom in all competitions since September 1996, Wolves will be riding high. Gary O’Neil’s side are now unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions, which is now their longest run since 2019 under Nuno Espirito Santo (nine games). Perhaps more importantly heading into this one, they haven’t been beaten at home since September (against Liverpool). Man United have had a better January after a torrid December, but still fail to impress. And at Molineux, they’re ripe for the taking.

3. Kevin de Bruyne (MCI) anytime goalscorer vs Burnley @ $2.20
One of the world’s best midfielders, de Bruyne made a stunning return to EPL action last time out, equalising and then setting up the winner for Manchester City against Newcastle at St James’ Park, despite coming on as a second-half substitute. The Belgian looms as perhaps City’s most important player in the back-half of the season after a long injury layoff. At home against the lowly Burnley (managed by City legend Vincent Kompany no less), he’s more than a good chance to get on the scoresheet again.

4. West Ham vs Bournemouth Over 3.5 goals @ $2.62
Bournemouth have been one of the EPL surprise packets in recent months, putting together a seven-game unbeaten run that’s been halted with back-to-back losses in recent games. Whatever your thoughts on them, though, is that they guarantee entertainment. In fact, five of their last six games (all competitions) have seen four or more goals. While West Ham are known to sit back at times under David Moyes, they won’t be doing so at home as favourites. And if the Cherries can snag an early goal, a high-scoring thriller may well be on.

5. Tottenham -1.0 vs Brentford @ $2.60
Spurs have had an up-and-down last six weeks, and were outplayed by Manchester City in the FA Cup last time out. The loss of stars Son Heung-min, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma to the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations continues to hurt Ange Postecoglou. However back at home, against a struggling Brentford, they should have enough to get the job done.
