Looking ahead to Matchweek 14 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.
1. Tottenham +2.0 vs Man City @ $2.00
Spurs are experiencing their first official slide under Ange Postecoglou. Up until now it had been roses and rainbows for the Aussie manager, who made history by being named the EPL manager of the month for three consecutive months. Now, however, they’ve lost three on the bounce. Thanks, in no small part, to injuries and suspensions that have decimated his best squad of 15-16 players. The loss to Villa last weekend, though, could easily have been a Spurs win on another day. No matter the opponent, Postecoglou won’t shirk being aggressive and playing a high line. Which means a two-goal head-start gives them a huge chance in this one against the reigning champions at the Etihad.

2. Brighton or draw vs Chelsea @ $2.00
Chelsea appear to be somewhat escaping what should arguably be greater scrutiny on their current predicament. Just a third of the way through the EPL season, the Blues sit in 10th, 10 points outside the Top 4 and are perhaps the most inconsistent side in the league. There’s belief that Mauricio Pochettino has the club on an upward trajectory, but that doesn’t marry up with a 4-1 thumping to Newcastle and a 2-0 home loss to Brentford in the last month. Sure, they’ve shown glimpses. But they’ve proven the exception to the rule this campaign. Brighton themselves aren’t pulling up trees but, after a pulsating away win at Nottingham Forest last weekend — no mean feat given Forest’s home form — Roberto de Zebrbi’s men are a huge chance to walk away with a point or even three in this one.

3. Rasmus Hojlund (Man Utd) to score vs Newcastle @ $3.40
I’m backing that this week is the week. That what, you ask? That Rasmus Hojlund breaks his EPL duck and gets on the scoreboard domestically. The summer signing has made a significant impact since arriving at Old Trafford, scoring five goals in five games in United’s tough Champions League run to date. But, despite going close on several occasions, the Danish striker is yet to hit the back of the next on the home front. Having scored in enemy territory against the likes of Bayern Munich, I’m backing him to do so in another intimidating atmosphere — at St James’ Park — this weekend.

4. Aston Villa H2H vs Bournemouth @ $1.95
Not the biggest clash of Matchweek 14, but an intriguing one nonetheless. Bournemouth have finally started to string together some results, winning three of their last four EPL matches. However here they come up against one of the competition’s form sides. Unai Emery has Villa humming and the storied club, in a world of trouble just 6-7 years ago, now appear a genuine Top 4 prospect. The Spaniard has them supremely well drilled, underlined by their high-line defence employed in the victory over Spurs last weekend. If they play to their level, they walk away with three points here.

5. Nottingham Forest H2H vs Everton @ $2.65
Forest have proven a tough matchup at home so far this EPL season. In fact, prior to last week’s 3-2 humdinger loss to Brighton, Steve Cooper’s side were unbeaten at the City Ground all season. They now face Everton at a good time. Not only coming off a 3-0 thumping at Goodison Park to Manchester United, the Toffees are still dealing with the fallout from the 10-point deduction they copped during the international break. At $2.65 at the time of writing, it’s good value for the home side to take the three points in this one.
