Five best bets for Matchweek 13

Looking ahead to Matchweek 13 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.

1. Liverpool +1.0 vs Manchester City @ $2.20

A huge way to re-start Premier League action after the international break. The Reds are the only EPL club unbeaten in their last five games, and while this trip represents their biggest challenge to date this season, they’ll be confident of taking it right up to City. They should provide some serious headaches for City’s backline, too; Mo Salah is in scintillating touch and Colombian Luis Diaz is coming off a double against Brazil. Peo Guardiola is sweating on the fitness of main man Erling Haaland, who injured his ankle playing for Norway. The striker has netted an incredible nine goals in his last six appearances for City, so his availability looms as crucial.

2. Manchester United H2H vs Everton @ $2.40

Among all the (justified) doom and gloom hanging around Old Trafford at present, you forget that United have actually won four of their last five games. That’s more points than Man City, Arsenal, and Tottenham have accrued in that same period. All four of those victories have been against sides in the bottom half of the EPL table, which at the very least shows that Erik ten Hag’s men are getting the job done against less-fancied opponents. Which is exactly what Everton are. While the Toffees have won three of their last five, they sit in 19th after an unprecedented 10-point deduction for breaching financial rules. It’s difficult to know whether the news will galvanise or demoralise the Everton players, but either way United should have enough at Goodison Park.

3. West Ham H2H vs Burnley @ $2.00

Evens is good value for a West Ham side who are, across the board, a far stronger outfit than Burnley. And while it’s away from home, David Moyes’ men should have enough to walk away from Turf Moor with three points. With a meagre four points from 12 games to date this season, it’s been nothing short of a disastrous campaign for Vincent Kompany. Rock bottom of the EPL table, Burnley sit below a Luton side they finished 21 points above in the Championship last season. This is from a club that spent over £100m in the summer, too. And they still sit below an Everton side docked 10 points.

4. Brentford +1.0 vs Arsenal @ $2.05

The Bees were outplayed in their last match against Liverpool, going down 3-0. But not before taking it to the Reds, something Jurgen Klopp conceded post-match. “More than 20 years ago when I started my career, I wanted to create a team that nobody wants to play against and we faced that team today,” he said. Back on home turf, the high-octane football Brentford play is sure to be on show again against an Arsenal side that’s sure to provide a big test. But it’s a test they’ll be up to; Frank’s men haven’t backed down against any side to date this EPL season. A draw or even upset win could be on the cards.

5. Wolverhampton H2H vs Fulham @ $3.05

Gary O’Neil has Wolves humming again, best underlined by their incredible win last time out against Spurs. In scoring twice in extra time, O’Neil’s side became just the eighth team to win an EPL game that they were losing going into the 90th minute. It speaks of a side on an upward trajectory and, aside from the anomaly against Sheffield United, have gone on a strong recent run that’s seen them accrue points against both Newcastle and Man City. They travel to West London to face Fulham at a good time; the Cottagers have won just one of their last seven EPL games and are struggling for confidence.
