Week 9 of the 2021/22 EPL season saw Manchester United sink to a new low, while Chelsea sent another warning shot that reinforced their title credentials.
Here’s how it looked for punters:
United hammered
It had already been a dreadful month in the EPL for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side. But things got far, far worse on Sunday. United were outworked, outclassed and, in the end, hammered to the tune of 5-0 by arch rivals Liverpool in a horrific display in front of their home fans. In essence the game was over at half-time as the visitors were 4-0 up. And when Jurgen Klopp’s side ($2.30 pre-game with Palmerbet) made it 5-0 after 50 minutes, hoards of United fans were seen leaving Old Trafford.
Perhaps the most damning aspect is the fact that we’re still in October and United’s title run is all but over. While they had already lengthened from $6 to $31 in the last month, it would seem Sunday’s loss was the final nail in the coffin. Solskjaer’s side are now out to $56 with Palmerbet.

Superb Salah
While the post-match focus centred on Solskjaer, the day was about one man. And that was Liverpool maestro Mo Salah. The Egyptian is now — as we speak — without doubt the world’s best player. Salah banged in Liverpool’s third, fourth and fifth goals to become the first away player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford in the EPL era. The forward was $21 with Palmerbet pre-game to score 3+ goals. But he did exactly that to lead his club to a win that’ll stick long in the memory. With 10 goals this season, he is three clear of his nearest rival (Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, 7).

Blues in seventh heaven
While Chelsea were heavily favoured to get past Norwich on Saturday ($1.18 pre-game with Palmerbet), no one expected they to ram home their superiority quite as hard as they did. Going in without the injured Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, questions were raised about who could get on the scoresheet. Midfielder Mason Mount did — three times, in fact — plus Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and an own goal, in a 7-0 rout at the Bridge. Perhaps it was even more satisfying given the first three are all Blues academy graduates.
The win means Chelsea go atop the EPL table. However Thomas Tuchel’s side are still $3.00 second-favourites (behind Manchester City, $1.91) for this season’s title.

Toffees turn it in
At 2-1 up after 77 minutes against Watford, things were looking good for Everton ($1.50 pre-game) to register a fifth win for the season and catapult into fourth on the EPL table. What happened next, however, was at best disappointing, and at worst insipid. The Toffees conceded four goals in the last 12 minutes to be beaten 5-2 in front of a stunned Goodison Park. Club legend Tim Cahill couldn’t hide his disappointment after the final whistle. The former Socceroo to Twitter to voice concerns about the team’s competitiveness.

Watford, who started the clash as $5.50 outsiders, registered an incredible record in the win. Claudio Ranieri’s side are now the first team in Premier League history to be losing after 75 minutes and still win the game by three goals.
