Matchweek 14 of the 2022-23 EPL season saw common threads of this campaign continue; Arsenal are flying, while Liverpool continue to labour.

Here’s how it looked for punters:

Klopp struggling for answers

When Liverpool are losing to lowly EPL opponents on the road, you know something is wrong. When they do so at home,  concerns are amplified even higher three-fold.

The Reds went into their clash against Leeds at Anfield as $1.24 favourites with Palmerbet and were expected to get back to winning ways after a disastrous loss to Nottingham Forest last weekend. But they couldn’t, as $11.70 Leeds saluted in a last-gasp 2-1 win. And the fallout has already been considerable. On just 16 points after 12 games, this is now Liverpool’s worst start to an EPL season under Jurgen Klopp. Less than a third of the way through the season, his side are already a whopping 15 points off the pace being set by Arsenal. But the embattled manager says he’s there for the long haul. “My job is not only to be here when the sun is shining and somebody gives us a trophy,” he said post-match. “My job is to be there when we go through a really rough period.”

Starting the season as $3.25 title hopes, Liverpool are incredibly out to $81.

Gunners on cloud nine

On the other end of the scale is Arsenal, whose impressive EPL campaign to date continues. Granted, they were expected to knock off Forest at home in Matchweek 14. Mikel Arteta’s men started as $1.23 favourites (Forest $13.20) in what was predicted to be a one-sided affair. And that’s exactly what entailed, a second half blitz giving the Gunners a 5-0 win. For those fancying a hefty Arsenal victory pre-game, Arteta’s side were $9.40 at -4.0.

At the very least, it appears Arsenal are headed back to Champions League football, somewhere they haven’t been since the 2016-17 season. Prior to the 2022-23 EPL campaign kicking off, they were $2.80 to finish in the Top 4. Now, they’ve charged into $1.10 with Palmerbet. And the most exciting thing for Gunners fans? If this squad stays together, it’s only just the beginning.

Seagulls swoop at home

While Leeds’ Anfield upset was (by far) the biggest head-to-head win over the weekend, there was huge value found elsewhere. Brighton were $3.10 at home to upset Chelsea ($2.40) in what was a big EPL match, with the wider context of Graham Potter’s return to the Amex. And in a dose of double delight for Seagulls fans, their side not only got one over the Blues to the roar of fans who gave it to their former manager (chanting “Potter, Potter, what’s the score?”), but they did so in style. In fact, in winning 4-1, they delivered for any punters gutsy enough to get on them at unders. Brighton were $18.10 pre-match at -2.0, and victory pushed them up to eighth. Notably for Potter, they’re now just three points adrift of Chelsea on the EPL table.
