Best Bets – Sat 28th October

W.S. Cox Plate

The Valley Race 9 (2040m) 5:10 pm

In one of the more open Cox Plate’s in recent times going to have something on the three-year-old colt MILITARIZE. He is the horse on the rise and his ability is untapped. He couldn’t get into the race in the Caulfield Guineas last time out and still ran home well at the end of the race, so the 2040m should not be an issue. Any give in the track coming into the end of a two day Valley carnival will only benefit him and the three-year-olds do have a solid record with such a lightweight of only 49.5kgs. Worth an each way play.

Manikato Stakes

The Valley Race 8 (1200m) 4:20 pm

It’s extremely hard to tip against the track record breaking New Zealand mare IMPERATRIZ. Her last two wins have been brilliant around this circuit of 1000m and she steps out to the 1200m where she easily won the William Reid Stakes in the Autumn. Looks a good thing but will be at a good thing’s price.

Moonee Valley Cup

The Valley Race 7 (2500m) 3:40 pm

VOW AND DECLARE ran home brilliantly behind Alligator Blood last time out in the Caulfield Stakes a fortnight ago and this will be the race for him to continue to show us if he is on track for another tilt at the Melbourne Cup on November 7. It appears to be a wide open event and he should be very competitive here and will give you a great run for your money.

BM78 Handicap

Doomben Race 10 (1200m) 6:20 pm

MILLANE appears to be one of the better bets on the Doomben card. Last time in he finished off his campaign with a 4 length defeat behind Yellow Brick in the Gold Coast Guineas and then a solid 2nd beaten only 2 lengths by the flying Red Card in a listed affair. A very nice second in a trial here in late September should have him jumping out of his skin for a first up win.

One Metro Win Handicap

Ascot Race 3 (1100m) 4:53 pm

Sticking with William Pike on TRIPLE JAY to get back into the winner’s stall. Drawn much better here after coming from the car park last time out. He generally pushes forward with his natural speed, so with that extra fitness on his side being third-up he should take plenty of running down at the finish.
