MIGHT AND POWER STAKES
Although there has to be some doubt with ALLIGATOR BLOOD running out a strong 2000m, he has shown over recent weeks he is rock hard fit and grinding away as was on display in his last win in the Underwood Stakes. It’s only 200m further and with his class he should only need a nice steer from Tim Clark to bring up another Group 1 victory.
CAULFIELD GUINEAS
MILITARIZE does look the one to beat here in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas after his devastating finish to win the Golden Rose at Rosehill last time. Not been given many favours with the draw but as has been proven over recent weeks good horses can win from out there. He should take a power of beating if the race is run for a swooper.
TOORAK HANDICAP
The “Queen of WA racing” AMELIA’S JEWEL has been so impressive in her two wins since arriving in Melbourne and steps up to Group 1 company now. She is a star in the making and although again given the visitors draw, she should be cherry ripe third-up and looking to put this Group 1 on the resume’. Hopefully we see a win here and then onwards to the Cox Plate.
RATING 66+ HANDICAP
Welcome back to racing at Ascot today and we have a good thing for you here to start off the season. Let’s stick with Pikey in the last on COLOSSAL to get the job done for us. He got up in the final bounds last time out at Belmont and with a similar ride/run in the race, he should be winning again.
BM80 HANDICAP
Going to have a throw at the stumps here with SIR ROCKET. He has been out of the winner’s stall for over a year now but he has been racing in better races than he finds here and was doing best work late in the Weetwood Handicap last start. With a 3kg claim and a suitable draw, I think he can roll forward and prove extremely hard to run down at juicy each way odds.
