CHAMPIONS STAKES

Flemington Race 8 (2000m) 5:10 pm

Hard to see them beating W.S.Cox Plate winner VIA SISTINA. She demolished a class field at The Valley and stable gave her a break and missed a Melbourne Cup she would have started favourite in. Drawn to get the perfect run in behind the speed and James McDonald will get the chance to cuddle her until last 200m and she should power away late.

CHAMPIONS MILE

Flemington Race 7 (1600m) 4:30 pm

Liked the way the Godolphin owned BROADSIDING finished off to grab a placing in the Cox Plate. Like him coming back to the 1600m where he is already a Group 1 winner. Not too worried about the awkward gate from the Flemington mile as Michael Dee will probably sit back off the hot pace of Pride Of Jenni.

Hoping he will get moving into the race before the corner and with his weight advantage he may just be too strong over last 200m.

CHAMPIONS SPRINT

Flemington Race 6 (1200m) 3:50 pm

GIGA KICK comes into this at peak fitness third-up from a spell. Had great tussle with Bella Nipotina in the Everest but he just found here stronger. He has won two of three starts down the famous Flemington straight and if he can get some cover early and luck late he may just finish over the top of these.

EMPIRE OF JAPAN HCP

Doomben Race 9 (1200m) 6:15 pm

GIVE ME SPACE was an impressive maiden winner last time out at Eagle Farm running away to win by over 4 lengths. He should get a nice sit on the leading division and be able to be wound up again on straightening for home. Only needs luck from the corner to be in finish.

LEE STEERE STAKES

Ascot Race 8 (1400m) 5:38 pm

A Group 2 race in The Lee Steere Stakes is the main event on the card at Ascot. I’m going with a little bit of value here in ZIPAWAY. He is first-up from a spell here and has never missed a place whilst fresh. He has had two trials to prepare for his return. At a nice each-way price, look for him to be launching at them late.
