Best Bets – Saturday 29th March

SPRINT CLASSIC

FLEMINGTON Race 7 (1100m) 3:40 pm

ALABAMA LASS has come across from NZ and they have found a nice race for her to contest. She was a close finishing second in the Railway Stakes and then won the King’s Plate at Ellerslie. This three-year-old filly is only lightly raced and has plenty of upside with a fantastic strike rate, she should be able to get the job done.

AUSTRALIAN CUP

FLEMINGTON Race 8 (2000m) 4:15 pm

Will be having something each-way on ATISHU in the Australian Cup. The last time she raced over the 2000m at headquarters she stormed home to finish second behind Via Sistina. With the expected tempo being on, Atishu loves this track and distance and I can see her running all over them.

ROY HIGGINS

FLEMINGTON Race 9 (2600m) 4:55 pm

DEAKIN won at The Valley in super fashion last time out and only needs to back that run up to take a power of beating in Roy Higgins. The winner gets exemption into the Melbourne Cup and this lightly raced five-year-old looks to have plenty of ability and would run that trip out nicely.

RATING 66+ HANDICAP

ASCOT Race 5 (1200m) 3:05 pm

Cannot see any reason why DEFERRED can’t win again. She was strong late and just got there last start. Has the low draw to be able to sit off the leaders and pounce at the business end. She goes on top.

OPEN HANDICAP

DOOMBEN Race 10 (1350m) 5:10 pm

Giving CORFE CASTLE another chance. Last time he raced up and looked a winning chance but wilted over the concluding stages. With that run under his girth and from the low draw, look for him to camp on them and be strong late.
