The 15th round of the 2025 AFL season saw many highlights and lowlights, including the Brisbane Lions getting back into the winning column, Carlton’s misery continues, and the GWS Giants will have a close encounter against the Suns.
Brisbane gets back to their winning ways in Geelong
Rising to second-place on the AFL ladder – only behind the Collingwood Magpies – the Brisbane Lions have gotten back to their winning ways with a 41-point victory over the Geelong Cats away from home.
After defeats to GWS and Adealaide over the past two weeks, the Lions were heavily counted out heading into Geelong but they left with their heads held high and the wood over the Cats, having beaten them in last year’s Preliminary Final to advance to the Grand Final.
Logan Morrison (five) and Cam Rayner (three) led the goal-scoring count while experienced veteran Dayne Zorko and Josh Dunkley were the best among the ball-getters and really took control out of the hands of the Geelong midfielder and half-back line.
“We played a really good team, and they were sharp tonight, and we were the opposite. If that’s a pattern throughout your games, then you’ve got a problem, and you may not be a very good team. I don’t think that’s the case with us, it hasn’t been a pattern, and it was a bad game to have an off night,” Geelong coach Chris Scott said.
“Sometimes you can have a bad night and get away with it, but you can’t against that quality of opposition. I didn’t think it was a complete disaster – the scoreboard got out of control, in a way, based on their efficiency.
“They kicked for goal differently to the way they have in previous weeks, and we kicked a bit more like they have.
“Even at three-quarter time, when we were well and truly up against it, the expected score was pretty tight. There was just some uncharacteristic stuff. It’s not complicated, it’s the stuff you all saw – skill errors, there’s a little bit of method stuff, but so much of it was execution.
“This might be one that you put in the category of being beaten by a better team on the night, bye next week, chance to regroup, we’re in pretty good shape.”

North Melbourne win their fourth match of 2025
The North Melbourne Kangaroos won their fourth match of the season over the weekend, while the misery of the Carlton Blues continues to get worse, as they suffered another defeat from a team placed below them on the AFL ladder.
In a stunning performance, the Kangaroos kicked eight consecutive goals on the MCG to win by 11 points, just two months after they were defeated by Carlton by 82 points on Good Friday.
Trio Tom Powell (34 disposals, three marks, five tackles), Harry Sheezal (31 disposals, eight tackles) and Cameron Zurhaar (three goals, three marks, two tackles) were the best on-ground for the Kangaroos while Mitch McGovern tries his best with four goals without Charli Curnow and Harry McKay both absent.
“It’s not time to isolate, it’s time to come together,” Carlton coach Michael Voss said following the match after the team was booed from the MCG when they exited the field.
“We love coming to the ground and having the supporter base we have and the passion that our supporters have, but we share in their disappointment.”

GWS win a blockbuster at ENGIE Stadium
In the most entertaining match of the round, the GWS Giants have emerged victorious by just seven points at ENGIE Stadium against the Gold Coast Suns, which has pushed the visiting side outside the top eight.
Although the Gold Coast started the match in the lead after a quick start, which saw them open the scoring with four goals, the Giants were able to make a late comeback in the final quarter to walk away with the victory.
Giants’ skipper Toby Greene once again had a slow start but was able to finish with 18 disposals and two goals, meanwhile Jake Stringer made an immediate impact as the emergency sub and Aaron Cadman scored two goals in the final 20 minutes.
