AFL Round 8 – Tips and Preview

Hawthorn have covered the line in 11 of their last 16 matches against the Collingwood Magpies and have won by an average of 31 points.

Jack Ginnivan loves taking on his former side and his past three showings against the Magpies, he has recorded 26, 31, and 31 touches. Expect nothing less from him again this week.

In the last two weeks, the Bulldogs have conceded ten goals to Jeremy Cameron and seven to Charlie Curnow – both key forwards. With this in mind, Josh Treacy is likely to have a field day against them.

In the last three weeks, the Bulldogs have been defeated by Hawthorn, Geelong and the Sydney Swans by at least 40 points or more.

Wayne Milera has been extremely consistent this season and has been able to average 25 possessions per match during this year’s campaign.

Port Adelaide head into the clash as the clear underdogs, and many have seen them as underestimated for this round. However, they always seem to perform at a high level in the South Australian showdown.

Brisbane Lions forward Zac Bailey kicked three goals last week against the Crows and is on track to do the same this week.

The Bombers and Lions are both high-scoring teams, so the contest has the ability to be a potential goal-fest. Don’t be surprised if multiple goals are scored.

The Eagles and Tigers are arguably two of the worst teams in the AFL at the moment, but West Coast are a touch better and will also have their home fans behind them cheering them on this weekend.

Eagles midfielder Harley Reid has recorded 27 disposals in two of his last three matches against the Tigers but expect this to be increased after already hitting 30 disposals against the Kangaroos and 27 against the Saints last week.

The North Melbourne Kangaroos have failed to beaten Geelong in its last 14 encounters against them and it’s hard to see this streak coming to an end.

Despite the Kangaroos being likely to emerge as the losers at the end of the match, they have showed strides this season and have been able to get off to a hot-start.

Winning by 101 points last week, the Saints are set for another comprehensive victory. This comes as their opponents are in the midst of a spiral and things could get out of hand over the weekend.

Jack Higgins has kicked a total of nine goals in his last two matches, so the Saints forward is the easy bet for this round against the Blues.

Following an inconsistent start to the season, Swans forward Charlie Curnow has finally found good form and is expected to kick multiple goals with ease this weekend.

While Curnow has been scoring with ease for the Swans, the same can be said for Kysaiah Pickett on the other side of the field for the Melbourne Demons.

The Gold Coast Suns may be the clear-cut favourite, but expect the scoreline to be relatively close as the Giants don’t normally concede a blowout when they are defeated.

Even when they GWS Giants are defeated on some occassions, defender-midfielder Lachie Whitfeld remains consistent across the park and can rack up possessions with ease.
