AFL Round 2 – Tips and Preview

A standout for the Hawks last round, forward Jack Gunston has kicked three or more goals in the club’s last seven matches when entering as favourites.

The Swans may be completely outmatched this week due to a variety of injuries to their star players, but Justin McInerney has recorded at least two goals in three of his last four matches.

One of the star forwards of the competition, Aaron Naughton has been averaging more than 3.5 goals per game in his last five outings and is set for another big showing.

In his match against the Western Bulldogs last season, Adelaide Crows forward Riley Thilthorpe booted a mammoth six goals. Expect him to have a similar outing as he prepares to control the forward 50.

Since making the switch from GWS to the Richmond Tigers, midfielder Tim Taranto has become one of the most consistent players when it comes to the ‘AFL Fantasy’ realm.

The Gold Coast Suns continue to have one of the strongest attacks throughout the entire competition, so expect a highly entertaining and high-scoring match between the two outfits this weekend.

The GWS Giants may have had a slow start to the season but the New South Wales-based side bring out their best when playing at their home venue of ENGIE Stadium.

All the attention will be on Giants forward Jesse Hogan this week. However, that allows other members of the forward line to stand up and delive – enter Jake Stringer.

Melbourne Demons pocker-rocket Kysaiah Pickett is one of the most entertaining forwards to watch in the entire competition and can change the outcome of a match in an instant.

Fremantle may have ended up going down to the Cats last weekend but they controlled the majority of the match which included scoring the most points in the opening quarter in the club’s history.

The Power have an influx of elite midfielders, which allows them to control the match. One of these players is midfield-forward Connor Rozee who manages to gather possessions with ease and showed this last weekend.

Port Adelaide are virtually unstoppable when they compete at home and although they do give up losses sometimes at Adelaide Oval, it’s hard to imagine the Bombers getting one over them.

Young Kangaroos midfielder Harry Sheezel was ‘on-fire’ last weekend against the Power and has slowly emerged as one of the club’s most important players. He had 31 disposals last week and this will only increase against a more inconsitent side in West Coast.

The Kangaroos produced one of the most inspiring victories of the past decade last week against Port Adelaide. A week on, and it’s hard to see them go from a dominant powerhouse to losing the likely 2026 AFL wooden spooners.
