AFL Round 17 – Tips and Preview

Geelong forward Jeremy Cameron has been in stellar form up front and has kicked 12 goals in his last five matches. He should be too much to handle for the small Lions defenders.

Geelong has three losses from their last four matches, so if there is a time for them to be upset at their home venue, it is likely to happen this weekend against the Brisbane Lions.

The Swans may have won two of their past three matches but they have looked a little flat at times, so even though they are favoured to win, don’t expect it to be by a massive margin.

Don’t be surprised to see Chad Warner deliver another standout performance after kicking four goals last week. Aiming to back up his showing, he should be able to manage at least two or three this weekend.

How good has Darcy Fogarty been! The Adelaide forward has seven goals to his name in the past two weeks, including a phenomenal showing against Port Adelaide in last week’s South Australian derby.

Riley Thilthorpe has kicked six goals in his last five matches, and while this is below expectations, you know he will kick at least a few against the Eagles.

Hawthorn key forward Mabior Chol is normally a good shot at goal and will be the primary target from the opening tap as the Hawks attempt to get off to a fast start.

Hawthorn has won their last 12 matches in Tasmania and is unbeatable at the venue. Meanwhile, the Demons have lost three of their past five games.

The Fremantle Dockers are easily the most in-form team of the competition at the moment and they could easily dominate the Giants in every aspect of the field.

Luke Jackson has kicked eight goals in his last three matches, and he is loving the Dockers system at the moment, where he should easily be able to rack up at least two goals.

The Gold Coast Suns have won their past two matches against the Magpies at the same venue and while they haven’t been playing their best footy, there is denying that they are a different team in Queensland.

Collingwood star Nick Daicos has scored two or more goals in his last three matches, so he should be able to extend this streak to four games over the weekend.

The Blues’ leading scorer, Harry McKay, should have a field day against the Tigers and has scored three or more goals in two of his last three appearances.

The Carlton Blues have won their past six matches while their opponents have been one of the worst and most inconsistent teams of the entire AFL competition.

Hugo Garcia isn’t known for scoring goals, but he did score one last week against the Bulldogs, and his odds of doing the same this weekend are in favour of the bettor.

Liam Ryan has kicked 14 goals in his last four games and has been in terrific form as of late, which has seen the midfielders identify him as the primary target in the forward 50.

He may not be the most consistent forward, but Jack Darling is coming off two goals against the Essendon Bombers last week and will look to repeat the same effort.

The Kangaroos are on the verge of breaking into the top eight, and a win on the weekend is likely to see them join it. Considering it has been a long time since they were in the top-eight beyond the halfway mark of the season, expect them to have more on the line to play for.
