We were treated to a round of high scores and big results in AFL Round 12, none more so than Collingwood’s huge win over Melbourne in front of a packed house at the MCG.

Here’s how it looked for punters:

Hot pies

The Queen’s Birthday clash was hyped as a monumental game for both premiership hopefuls Melbourne and the in-form Collingwood. In front of 80,000+, a final’s like atmosphere was predicted pre-game, and that’s exactly what we got. And when the dust settled on what was a huge day, the conclusion was this: Collingwood are the real deal.

A 42-point win to Nathan Buckley’s side has stamped their authority on the competition in a big way. Going into the game the Pies were $2.46 outsiders to come away with the win. If you fancied them for an unlikely (at the time…) 40+ point win you were treated to odds of $9. This was the first time they have kicked 20 goals in consecutive games since 2011. That year they made the Grand Final – could they go one better in 2018? They’re into $8 to win the flag – a price you’d have thought was crazy just two months ago.

Show no mercy

After a number of blowouts last week, things got worse in Round 12 with the average winning margin almost 50 points. Chief amongst the biggest losers were St Kilda and Gold Coast, who went down by 71 and 108 points respectively. The Suns especially look void of ideas, and have moved into $5.50 in our ‘least season wins’ market. St Kilda (on one win alongside Carlton and Brisbane) are at $3.50.

Resurgent Giants

On the other side of the ledger is a reinvigorated GWS who heaped pain on the aforementioned Suns. Just a fortnight ago we questioned their position in AFL season 2018 but after last week’s stirring win against the Crows and this weekend’s thumping victory at home, Leon Cameron’s side all of a sudden look dangerous. They’ve moved again in our Premiership market, up from $21 last week into $18. To make the 8, they sit at an even $2. Money for jam?

A look ahead…

It’s a shorter week this week, and we gear up again on Thursday night for the clash between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs at the Adelaide Oval. After the Power’s big win against the reigning premiers on Friday night, they are a short $1.11 to get the job done. It’s expected to pour down in Adelaide all week so watch the unders on Total Points markets closely. It’s currently at 145.5, which is probably already good enough to have a crack at. The last wet clash at the Adelaide Oval was three weeks ago, where the Crows and Dogs managed only 89 points between them.
